Outlook: Tonight’s nonregion contest is pretty much a schedule-filling game for the Rams.
Boulder Creek is a new 5A Conference school that is playing an independent schedule this season. The Jaguars are a junior and senior dominated team that will join the 5A Division II Northwest Region full-time next season. After losing five straight games to start the season to mostly 4A schools, the Jaguars have won two straight.
Boulder Creek began the season passing the ball effectively, but has gone to the run more often. In his last two games, senior running back Devin Contreras has rushed for 135 and 127 yards, respectively, in wins over Bayard (N.M.) Cobre and Glendale Copper Canyon.
Maricopa just hopes to get through tonight’s game with a clean bill of health. Next week, the Rams will play for third-place in the West Region and a spot in the 2A state playoffs against Tonopah Valley.
