VX Roundup 1/8: Mesquite boys hoops routs Basha

Nate Anderson and Zach Green had 15 points apiece as the Mesquite boys basketball team dominated Basha, 61-24, in a Division I power points contest Tuesday night. John Schertzer and Jordan Perry added 10 points for the Wildcats, while Cole Kepler led Basha with eight.

Red Mountain 63, No. 9 Dobson 58: Colton Plourd had 18 points and four rebounds to lead the Mountain Lions to an upset win over the Mustangs. Travis Meeker added 15 points and nine rebounds for Red Mountain (13-6), which has now won three in a row.

Poston Butte 60, Campo Verde 53: Jalen Richard led all scorers with 20 points to lead the Broncos to the victory. Kyle Davis added 13. Legend Artis had 11 points for Campo Verde.

Gilbert 85, Maryvale 47: The Tigers (12-5) jumped out to an 18-point lead after the first quarter and cruised to the win. The Tigers play at Mesquite on Thursday.

Mountain Pointe 61, Mountain Ridge 53

Girls Basketball

Mountain View 73, Skyline 26: The Toros nailed 10 3-pointers in the game and outscored the Coyotes 54-11 in the middle two quarters. Armani Hawkins led all scorers with 15 points and Sabrina Haines scored 14 for Mountain View. Senior point guard Rene Coggins made her season debut scoring eight points in limited minutes. Toros run their overall record to 12-5 and 8-1 in power rankings games.

Queen Creek 60, Florence 15: Sarah Hefington had 15 points and 11 rebounds while Makaily Worthington had a game-high 19 points and added seven boards as the Bulldogs cruised.

Scottsdale Christian 38, Cortez 32: Anna Long had 25 points as the Eagles held off a late rally from Cortez to hold on for the win. Kendyll Hellestrae added six points for Scottsdale Christian.

Boys soccer

Mesa 3, Mountain View 1: Jose Barrera scored his ninth and tenth goals of the season as the Jackrabbits defeated the Toros for the third time this tear. Alex Gutierrez also scored for Mesa. Erick Reyes knocked in the goal for Mountain View.

Campo Verde 3, Marcos de Niza 0: Sam Gleadle scored all three of the Coyotes goals in the win to keep Campo Verde unbeaten in power rankings matches. Briley Guarneri added two assists in the victory.
