Final Tribune softball rankings 4/23:

Division I

1. Red Mountain

2. Basha

3. Gilbert

4. Desert Mountain

5. Xavier

6. Horizon

7. Mountain Ridge

8. Centennial

9. Chaparral

10. Desert Vista

Basha moves up to No. 2 and Gilbert falls a bit to No. 3 after losing to Pinnacle, though there's no shame there given the Pioneers have also beaten Desert Mountain twice, Horizon and Chaparral). Xavier falls to No. 5 after losing to Basha and Chaparral late last week, while Desert Mountain's second loss to Pinnacle still keeps the Wolves above the Gators on account of strength of schedule. Mountain Ridge plays at Centennial on Monday afternoon, while Desert Vista questionably hangs onto No. 10 after losing to Highland. Chandler falls out of the rankings with losses to Red Mountain and Casa Grande (again, no shame there), while Pinnacle could have easily taken the Thunder's spot at No. 10. Look out for Pinnacle to make a move in the state tournament.

Division II

1. Canyon del Oro

2. Sabino

3. Ironwood Ridge

4. Sunrise Mountain

5. Sahuaro

6. Casa Grande

7. Saguaro

8. Notre Dame

9. Paradise Valley

10. Queen Creek

No changes to the upper two-thirds of the rankings as everyone won out from last week. The bottom one-third, however, shuffled a bit. Notre Dame falls a spot after losing a second time this season to Saguaro, which moves ahead of the Saints but not more because Casa Grande beat Division I-Chandler. Greenway falls out of the rankings from No. 10 after losing to Raymond S. Kellis (which beat Sunrise Mountain earlier this month but Sunrise Mtn. returned the favor late last week). Queen Creek enters the rankings in Greenway's spot, partly because of a couple strong wins (Saguaro, Williams Field, Perry) and partly because someone has to be No. 10 in a field littered with teams who have good wins followed by a puzzling loss or two.

Division III

1. Estrella Foothills

2. Winslow

3. Mingus

4. Benson

5. Bourgade Catholic

No changes here as everyone won out last week.

Division IV

1. Pusch Ridge Christian

2. AZ Lutheran Academy

3. NW Christian

4. St. Johns

5. Bagdad

St. David falls out of the rankings from No. 4 after losing three games last week - albeit to Div. III schools - two in blowout fashion. St. Johns gets the nod this time, though not because they're one of the hotter teams as much as they've played only five games this season against Div. IV competition (the rest against the best of Div. III) and are still 12-5.
