VX Roundup 4/8: Red Mtn. softball, Saguaro baseball earn wins

Thanks to a fast start, the Red Mountain softball scored five runs in the first two innings to set the tone early and win, 9-2 against Pinnacle in Division I.

A two-run home run by Bre Macha in the first inning and a three-run home run by Alyssa Fernandez in the second inning started the scoring for Red Mountain.

Alex Wiley had four hits and TJ Beeson had three doubles to pace the Mountain Lions. Red Mountain finished with 14 hits.

Macha was outstanding in seven innings of work in allowing one earned run and fanning 10 for her 10th victory of the season.

Red Mountain will play at Mesa on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

Xavier 15, Ironwood 4

Baseball

Saguaro 12, Paradise Valley 1: Saguaro used an 11-run 1st inning and coasted to a 12-1 victory in five innings over the Paradise Valley on Monday. Nick Meservey earned the win by allowing two hits, no walks and seven strikeouts. Offensively, the Sabercats were led by Matt Mara and Luke Eigsti who each had a double among their two hits (including a double each) and two RBIs. Stephen Gifford and Brett Adams also drove in two runs on the day with Adams hit his 17th double of the season in the first.
