Prep Report: C. Gibson sinks shot for Wolves win

Cameron Gibson only scored two points Wednesday night for the Chandler boys basketball team, but two was enough as he hit his lone basket at the buzzer to give the host Wolves a 60-58 victory over Chandler Basha in the Salpointe Tip-Off Classic.

Andre Gibson scored 16 points for Chandler, which went 16-for-16 from the free-throw line.

Nick Markovich scored 17 points for Basha.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jordan Holt had 18 points and Chris Lewis added 16 as Red Mountain trounced Saguaro 73-48 in the Salpointe Tip-Off Classic at Chandler High.

Saguaro’s Johnathan Nelson led all scorers with 26 points. …

Led by Eric Hunt’s 29 points, Mountain View crushed visiting Tucson High 85-43 in a 5A nonregion game. Jordan McLelland added 10 points for the Toros. …

Matt Carlino scored 20 points as Highland cruised over Phoenix Thunderbird 61-33 in the Salpointe Tip-Off Classic at Chandler High.

Nick Johnson had 16 points for the Hawks, who held the Chiefs to only one point in the second half.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pinnacle finished strong with a 23-point fourth quarter to put away Corona del Sol in a 61-40 win in the Highland Thanksgiving Tournament at Mesquite.

Aley Rohde scored 17 points for Pinnacle (2-0), and Morgan Richardson added eight points. Alissa Beaird led Corona (1-2) with 10 points and Sydney Vanda scored nine. …

Morgan Wohltman scored 17 points as Highland ran over Sierra Vista Buena 93-34 in the Highland Thanksgiving Tournament. Malia Magazzeni and Amanda Enriquez added 11 points apiece for the host Hawks. …

Karen Bomar scored 15 points to lead host Mesquite (3-0) to a 69-45 victory over Phoenix Alhambra in the Highland Thanksgiving Tournament. …

Kayla Peralta scored 14 points as Basha topped McClintock 51-35 in the Highland Thanksgiving Tournament at Mesquite.

McClintock’s Amy Patton had 16 points, but Basha limited the Chargers’ standout to just one field goal and two free throws in the second half.
