04/17 - Roundup: Toros tie Mountain Lions for 1st in region

Amanda Nesbitt struck out nine, and had a triple and two RBIs to lead Mountain View past visiting Red Mountain Wednesday as the Toros pulled even with the Mountain Lions for first place in the East Valley Region softball standings. Jeani Jadlot went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Toros (18-6, 9-1). Katie Garmin went 2-for-3 with a double for Red Mountain (9-1).

HORIZON 3, PHOENIX NORTH CANYON 0: Alex Hawley scattered three hits and struck out nine to lead the visiting Huskies (11-11, 4-2) past the Rattlers in a 5A Desert Valley Region matchup. Jaci Hull went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run for Horizon.

YUMA KOFA 2, HIGHLAND 1:

Danielle Pineda went 2-for-3 with a double and scored the only run for visiting Hawks (4-3) against the Kings (5-2), who took over sole possession of the 5A Fiesta Region lead.

DESERT MOUNTAIN 3, MOUNTAIN POINTE 2: Stephanie Ewing went 2-for-2 with a home run to lead the Wolves (11-14, 2-7) over the Pride (9-13, 3-5) in 5A Central Region play. Casey Goldsand tied the score in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single and Justine Green singled her home for the win.

HAMILTON 5, MESQUITE 4: Kaylnn Davis went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the host Huskies (11-13, 4-3) over the Wildcats (4-3) in 5A Fiesta play.

GILBERT 3, CHANDLER 0:

Stephanie Amaya collected a double and an RBI as the visiting Tigers (16-9, 4-3) shut out the Wolves (4-16-1) in a 5A Fiesta game.

SKYLINE 10, MESA 7: The host Coyotes (10-14, 3-6) downed the Jackrabbits in a 5A East Valley game. Tiny Tautimez went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Skyline. For Mesa, Livia Legault went 4-for-4 with two RBIs.

BASEBALL

DESERT VISTA 3, CORONA DEL SOL 1: Ian Tindall pitched a four-hit complete game, striking out four and allowing only one walk as the host Thunder beat the Aztecs in 5A Central action. Mike Ramirez went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Brian Dodd and Jayson Brugman were each 2-for-3 for the Thunder.

DESERT MOUNTAIN 12, MARCOS DE NIZA 2: Willy Fox had a basesclearing triple to lead the Wolves (18-4, 5-2) over the Padres (2-5) in 5A Central play.

GIRLS TENNIS

RED MOUNTAIN 5, MOUNTAIN VIEW 0: The host Mountain Lions (15-0) shut out the Toros to earn their second consecutive 5A East Valley Region title.

BOYS TENNIS

RED MOUNTAIN 5, MOUNTAIN VIEW 3: The visiting Mountain Lions (13-2) topped the Toros to earn a 5A East Valley team title.

HAMILTON 5, MESQUITE 0: The Huskies defeated the Wildcats to gain the 5A Fiesta team title and advance to the state tournament.
