Aaron Fuller posted 22 points and 14 rebounds to help Mesa cruise by Tempe 83-54 in boys basketball and advance to the second round of the Horizon Tournament.

Ben Gillespie scored 15 points for the Jackrabbits (7-3), who will play Glendale Deer Valley in the second round at 6 p.m. today at Horizon High School.

Boys basketball

Kendall Wallace poured in 24 points to lift Mountain View over Orem (Utah), 61-33, and into the semifinals of the Maldonado Classic at Galena High School in Reno, Nevada.

Harper Kamp added 15 points for the Toros (8-0), who will face Artesia High School (Lakewood, Calif.), one of the top teams in the nation, at 5:30 p.m. today.

Girls basketball

Sisters Chantel and Megan Moss led Coolidge in scoring with 18 and 11 points, respectively, to defeat host Globe 43-41. Chantel grabbed a team-high 18 rebounds to go along with Megan’s 10 for the Bears (9-1).…

Chaparral (12-2) cruised to a 69-33 win over visiting Raymond Kellis. All 10 players scored for the Firebirds, with Sam Russell leading the way with 20 points. Russell also had 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double.…

Highland defeated Many Farms 63-33 in the Winslow Winter Classic. Morgan Wohltman led the Hawks (10-3) with 11 points. Highland moves on to the quarterfinals to face Tuba City today.…

Tony Cascio tallied a goal and an assist in Hamilton’s 3-0 win over Mesquite (4-4-1, 0-2) in 5A Fiesta Region action.

Goalkeeper Brent Blaylock had four saves in posting his third shutout of the season for the Huskies (5-3, 1-1).…
