Mickey McConnell scored 26 points and dished out six assists for visiting Mesa Dobson as it defeated Mesa Mountain View, 63-54, in a 5A East Valley Region boys basketball game Tuesday night.

Kramer Knutson added 14 points for the Mustangs (20-5, 8-1). Harper Kamp led the Toros (21-4, 8-1) with 17.

The win moves Dobson into a tie with Mountain View for the region lead. Each team has one game remaining and if the records remain the same, power points will decide home-court advantage for the region tournament.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jerryd Bayless scored a game-high 39 points to help St. Mary’s defeat host Paradise Valley, 72-47. The win puts St. Mary’s into first place in the Desert Valley Region. The Trojans’ (16-10, 6-2) Javon Jones scored 17 points. …

Corona del Sol defeated host Basha 66-56 in a 5A Central Region contest. Brad Carroll finished with 24 points and Phil Feinberg added 20 for the Aztecs. …

Fountain Hills defeated River Valley 75-29 to advance to the second round of the 3A West Region tournament.

Pat Keating had a double-double for the Falcons (20-7), scoring 22 points and passing out 12 assists.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marcos de Niza’s Joy Burke netted a personal-best 26 points and Kendra Evans added 11 in a 74-44 victory over visiting Yuma Kofa. Burke also grabbed a game-high 22 rebounds. …

Kim Wigboldy scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in Valley Christian’s 54-7 victory over Bourgade Catholic. The Trojans outscored Bourgade Catholic 47-6 in the first half and allowed only one point in the second half. …

Morgan Wohltam scored 20 points to help Highland cruise to a 73-40 5A Fiesta Region win over visiting Hamilton. The win improves the Hawks’ record to 19-8 overall and to 6-3 in region play. …

Coronado defeated visiting Higley 55-47 in a 4A East Sky Region tournament game. Tabitha Williams had a double-double for the Dons, scoring 11 points and grabbing 22 rebounds. …

Natasha Ray had a double-double in Mesa’s 64-59 5A East Valley Region win over visiting Westwood. Ray scored 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
