09/26 - Girls volleyball roundup: Horton sparks Arcadia victory

Kellyn Horton had 35 assists and seven aces as Arcadia (12-2, 3-2) beat Tempe 25-16, 25-14, 25-17 in a 4A East Sky Region girls volleyball game Thursday at Tempe.

Lindsay Hull added 10 kills and five aces for the Titans.

Stacy Stone had 10 digs for Tempe (1-6 region).

FOUNTAIN HILLS def. GLOBE, 25-13, 25-15, 25-9: Rebecca Iacomacci had 16 kills and four aces and Chelsea Hill added 19 assists and three aces as the Falcons (8-4) beat the visiting Tigers in a 3A South Region matchup.

CHAPARRAL def. DESERT RIDGE, 25-15, 25-12, 25-11: Renata Miles had 12 kills and Sara Citron was a perfect 22-for-22 serving as the Firebirds (14-5) beat the Jaguars in a 4A East Sky Region matchup.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN def. VALLEY LUTHERAN, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16, 21-25, 15-10: Morganne Parsons led the Trojans (17-6) with 11 kills, 11 blocks and nine aces in a 2A Metro Region win over the visiting Flames. Teammate Jennifer Ekstrand had 44 assists and eight blocks. Alyssa D’Acosta added 12 kills.

SETON CATHOLIC def. TUCSON SAHUARITA, 25-14, 28-30, 25-14, 25-16: Amy Barlow had 19 kills, 11 digs and seven aces to lead the host Sentinels (18-3, 8-0) past the Mustangs in a 3A South Region contest. Shannon Burke added 15 kills, three aces and 15 digs and Anna Hershkowitz had six kills and 10 digs for Seton.

PHOENIX GREENWAY def. NOTRE DAME PREP, 25-9, 25-22, 25-9: The Demons overpowered host Notre Dame Prep (1-7) in three matches.

HIGLEY def. WILLCOX, 25-7, 25-20, 25-22: Manda Maynard had 12 assists and five digs to lead the host Knights (3-2 region) over the Cowboys in 3A South Region action. Higley’s Ariel Eilola had 11 kills and two blocks, and teammate Ashley Alvarez added five kills and five digs.

SAGUARO def. APACHE JUNCTION, 28-26, 25-16, 20-25, 28-26: The visiting Sabercats downed the Prospectors in a 4A East Sky match.

PHOENIX CHRISTIAN def. SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN, 16-25, 26-24, 25-17 23-25 15-13: Whitney Tripp had five kills and eight blocks, while teammate DaniRae Lougheed added six kills, two aces and three blocks as the Eagles (1-4) fell to the visiting Cougars in a 2A Metro Region game.
