It was a pivotal game for a pair of teams who came in 4-2 and both facing tough games next week. Perry treated the home crowd to an impressive 24-0 victory over Poston Butte on Thursday night.

It was the first shutout of the season for the Pumas. The offense has racked up 242 points averaging nearly 35 points a game.

Perry (5-2) put together strong scoring drives of 64, 60 and 68 yards to lead 17-0 at halftime. They also cashed in on a Broncos turnover for the lone second-half touchdown.

Running back Reggie Blader continues to rack up the yards as he capped off the 64-yard drive with an 18-yard touchdown run for the Pumas near the 4:00 minute mark of the opening quarter. It was Blader's ninth touchdown of the season.

Midway through the second quarter quarterback Taelon Parson hooked up with Mitch Harris for an 18 yard strike padding the lead to 14-0.

After Poston Butte had a drive stall inside Perry's 20, the Pumas marched down the field and settled for a Mikey Aguirre 30-yard field goal with under a minute left to take a 17-0 lead to halftime. Aguirre also booted all three of his PAT kicks.

In the second half, the Broncos twice drove inside the Perry 20, but came away with no points. A-30 yard defensive play early in the fourth quarter for for the lone score of the second half. Late in the game Poston Butte threatened to get on the scoreboard but, again a drive stalled at the Pumas-18 yard line to preserve the shutout.

The Broncos (4-2) were coming off a big 13-12 win over Coolidge last week.

Next Friday, Perry plays Chandler-neighbor Basha (Division I), whom Perry upset, 56-38, last season. Division III Poston Butte hosts Queen Creek, which is unbeaten going into Friday's game.

Williams Field 75, Apache Junction 21: The Black Hawks (7-0) got another balanced attack from their offense in the blowout victory. Sean Schweichler ran for three touchdowns and eclipsed 150 yards on five carries. Jeddediah Fagg threw four touchdown passes, Cole Forsgren had a 65-yard touchdown on the first play of the game and Cole Patterson hit Kenny Owens for a 96-yard touchdown as Williams Field led 62-13 at halftime. The Black Hawks travel to Casa Grande Vista Grande next Friday, while A.J. (0-7) hosts Div. IV powerhouse Lakeside Blue Ridge.
