Visiting McClintock hung on to beat Higley 87-84 in overtime of a 4A nonconference game.

With 5.5 seconds left and the game tied, the Knights (0-1) could not handle the inbounds pass and turned it over to the Chargers (2-0). Then after McClintock tried to get the ball up court and failed they went to Elgin Caldwell who put up a 23-foot buzzer-beater that won the game.

"We scored on just about every possession in the overtime and were able to come out with the win," McClintock coach Brian Fleming said. "They (Higley) dominated the game and deserved to win, but I told the kids good teams find ways to win games like this and they did."

Parker Berrett led the Chargers with 21 points, Kenny Gooden added 14, Edis Kara finished with 12, and Caldwell had 10. Taylor Jackson led the Knights with 18 points, Dusty Howard finished with 17, and Tanner Riggs had 15. . . .

Skyline had four players in double figures: J.C. Hall (16 points); Ethan Squires (15); Travis Morales and Steve Cventanovich (10 each). Fultz caught fire in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 points, but it was not enough for Queen Creek (0-2) to erase an 18-point deficit. . . .
