Bentley Crandell had two touchdowns to lead visiting Skyline to a 40-7 victory over host-Kingman, Friday, making Angelo Paffumi a winner in his first game as a head coach.

Crandell scored on touchdowns on a 47-yard reception and 44-yard run, as the Coyotes (1-0) ran wild on the Bulldogs, notching 276 yards on 38 carries.

Paffumi, who previously served as an assistant coach at Desert Ridge and Gilbert, had to be pleased with his team’s start. Skyline jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, leading 22-0 at the half.

Campo Verde 41, Apache Junction 6: Campo Verde’s Marquon Claiborn jump started the Coyote defense, picking off the first of four interceptions, taking it in for the score to lead Campo Verde to a 41-6 rout of visiting Apache Junction (0-1). The Coyotes (1-0) defense also recovered a fumble to finish with five forced turnovers on the night. Offensively, Campo Verde rushed for 221 yards, led by Lorenzo Sanchez’s 80 yards and two touchdowns. Devante Spears tallied 70 yards on the ground and Luke Pineda rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown. Erick Belcher did his part as he took a kickoff back for an 89-yard touchdown.

Higley 53, Carl Hayden 6: Led by Thomas Bush's 200 yards rushing on 31 carries, Higley racked up 344 yards rushing to defeat host Carl Hayden. Knights quarterback Mythias Young only passed six times but completed four for 25 yards and a touchdown. He did a lot of damage with his legs, rushing 12 times for 116 yards. The Higley defense wasn’t too bad, either, as the Knights (1-0) recorded four turnovers - including two interceptions - and a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Tristan DaCosta. A 95-yard interception return for a touchdown by Kyron Cardwell rounded out the scoring.

Poston Butte 34, Flagstaff 0: After turning the ball over a couple times early, Poston Butte’s defense scored a touchdown early in the second half to ignite the Broncos' (1-0) offense in the win over visiting Flagstaff.

Gilbert Christian 36, Salt River 18: Trey Gass threw for two touchdowns, including one to Trey Still, who also rushed for one to pace Gilbert Christian to a 36-18 win over Salt River. Still accumulated over 125 all-purpose yards on the night for the Knights (1-0).

Tempe Prep 53, Bourgade Catholic 18: Tempe Prep’s Forest Redlin rushed for three touchdowns as the Knights ran rough shot over host Bourgade Catholic 53-18. Jake Hartzler and Anthony Brittain each added two touchdowns of their own for Tempe Prep (1-0), while teammate David Shumate added another.

Arcadia 27, Coronado 0: Coronado turned the ball over three times, allowing Arcadia to jump out to an early lead which the Titans rode to a 27-0 shutout of the Dons. After falling behind 14-0 in the first half, Coronado (0-1) was driving to start the third quarter, but an errant pass found the hands of an Arcadia defender who took it the length of the field to put the Titans (1-0) up 20-0 and put the game out of reach.
