VX Roundup 4/19: Mesquite's Webster allows one run in complete game win vs. Hamilton

Josh Webster pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on seven hits to lead host Mesquite to a 4-1 victory over Hamilton on Friday.

After giving up a run in the second inning that tied the game at 1-1, Webster shut out the Huskies the rest of the way.  

Led by Cole Valletta, who finished 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI, the Wildcats tacked on a run in the second, third and sixth innings to reclaim a lead they wouldn’t lose.

Tyler Pollett also helped Mesquite out at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

With the win, the Wildcats improved to 19-7.

Nick Ohanian took the loss for Hamilton, which dropped to 19-6.

Mountain Pointe 6, McClintock 1: Taylor Martin was 2-for-3 with a double, while teammate Jorge Carrasco picked up his third win of the year to help the Pride (19-7) prevail. Preston Ryan suffered the loss for the Chargers (13-13), but went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Casa Grande 12, McClintock 5: Nick Elliot went 3-for-5 knocking in three runs in a lopsided victory for the Cougars (17-9-1) versus the Wolves (9-15).

Desert Mountain 7, Westwood 1: Calvin Boyd held the Warriors to one run thru five innings pitched, striking out four to lead the Wolves win their 25th game of the year on Senior Night. Tanner Fraley hit a two-run inside the park home run in the second inning after the throw home got away from Westwood’s catcher.

Williams Field 13 Coolidge 5: Travis Rowe earned his eighth win of the season going 3 1/3 innings allowing no hits with two walks and five strikeouts. The Black Hawks scored every run by RBI, including homers by Kobar, Alexander, and Mathers. Jake Tully pitched a solid 3 2/3 to close out the game. Williams Field moves to 18-10 overall, 11-5 in the points.

SOFTBALL

Saguaro 14, Notre Dame 1: Jenna Nimtz hit two home runs, tallying six RBI to push the host Sabercats (8-15) to just their eighth win of the season. Teammate Marli Ibsen notched the win, allowing just one run on four hits, while Alex Dickey got the loss for the Saints. Notre Dame’s Kacey Foppe, was 1-for-3 with a double as the Saints dropped to 6-22 overall.

Red Mountain 6, Highland 0: Breana Macha struck out 16 batters, giving up just two hits and walking only one in dominating fashion for the Mountain Lions (26-5). Teammate TJ Beeson finished 2-for-3 with and RBI, while Jordan Beck knocked in three runs herself. The loss dropped the Hawks to 14-14.

Mountain Pointe 18, McClintock 5: Collecting 18 runs on 16 hits, the Pride (15-12) steamrolled the Chargers (8-21) led by Hannah Hoban who finished the game 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. Kristen McCann recorded the win for Mountain Point, striking out 14 while allowing five runs. Teammates Ana Howard and Tegan Wambold each went 3-for-5, respectively. Shealynn Zimnick took the loss for McClintock. Dian Nordstrom led them at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double.

Desert Mountain 14, Westwood 1: The visiting Wolves made quick work of the Warriors, defeating them in 5 innings thanks to another great pitching effort by Andy Wellins (19-6). Wellins won her 19th game of the year and hit a three-run homer, Cheyann Tucker added a 2-run homer and Sam Pederson drove in five runs. Desert Mountain improved to 21-8, while Westwood is now 3-19.
