How many of you YayHooos know that every gun shop purchase involves a background check and nearly all purchases at a gun show already involve background checks?
Now how many of you reasonable folks have read the really fine print of the law they are proposing in Washington? If for example Grand'Pa gives a gift of one of his guns to his grandson they'll have to go to a gun shop and do a background check on BOTH G'Pa and his grandson...
Or if you let your son shoot your rifle at the gun range you'd better have a background check (at $25 each) before he touches your rifle or else you're a felon.
And those are just a few of the gems to be found in this Oh So reasonable sounding offer.
Get this: A "Universal" background check is a defacto national gun registry and those are nearly always a precursor to even greater gun restrictions.
Enforce the laws we have - a "universal" background check would NOT have prevented what happened at SandyHook!1 month ago
More to it than simplistic answers. The AHCCCS "males no dependents" all had to live around this one hospital to have this sort of impact and I'm sure they didn't.
Banner, Mountain Vista and Gilbert all seem to be doing fine. So maybe, just maybe there were management issues involved and, its easier to blame Medicaid when its a hot-issue right now?
Why is no one mourning for the brand newly constructed hospital near Cooledge who closed before they had fully opened because the Dept of Corrections chose to transport inmates to Banner in Mesa rather than use the new local facility?
There's always more to a story than simple answers.1 month ago
Why does Steve Gallardo fear this bill? Could it be because his party wouldn't win?
Initiative contributions should be the same as campaign contributions; Bubba has it wrong as usual.
@Bubba; is ASU in the interest of the public under your assertion? They employ lobbyists. What about the city you live in? Did you know there's an entire taxpayer funded lobbying firm dedicated to representing on single public interest group?? Its called the League of Cities and Towns.
Do some homework before displaying to the world why requirements to vote should be tightened. 2 months ago
That which comes easy is often discounted and not valued. That which requires sweat, hard work, and patience is always valued. Shouldn't voting be valued?
Are you neighbors on the block well informed as to all sides of an issue before they enter the voting booth? Or do they simply read the political garbage that floods their mailboxes and look to the media spin for their "informed vote"??
Why is it that Democrats always want to discount voting and make it a numbers game? Because otherwise they loose on the issues in 7 out of 9 contests.2 months ago
Why shouldn't it be harder to get an initiative on the ballot? You are changing the Constitution, should that be a simple thing to do? Currently it is. All you have to have is a well funded out of state activist group drive to Phoenix, set up some tables with paid petition gatherers and presto! You get some Cali wacko initiative on the ballot!
What about the 14 other counties? Shouldn't you have to sell your idea to them too? Or is it just Phoenix that counts?
Things that come easy are often discounted and not held with high value; things you have to really work for are prized and held in high esteem. Why shouldn't voting be the same?
There's a whole lot more to Arizona than Phoenix and its silly suburbs who think they're so darn important.2 months ago
Agenda 21: "...non-binding United Nations resolution on sustainable growth" Really? The Rio Treaty was signed by a Republican, George Bush 41 and later directly implemented by the next president, Bill Clinton through Executive Order to *all* departments of the Executive Branch when the Senate refused to ratify the treaty Bush signed. Non-Binding? So some homework, we've been integrating Agenda 21 policy and programs since 1993. Facts are often difficult things to deal with.
Agenda 21 documents go well beyond simply 'sustainable growth' and include a common international curriculum for all public schools. Go to the U.N. website on Agenda 21 and READ the DARN THING!2 months ago
Lets connect the dots; subscriptions to newspapers is declining because they're not providing readers a value for the money. Now they want us to continue subsidizing them through forcing cities to pay premium rates to post public notices?
Maybe the day of the community newspaper is over. This publication always features some of the kookiest "columnists" I've ever read! Bias and fact free editorial comment are hallmarks of many of today's print offerings.
No public subsidy for community newspapers.3 months ago
2007 Deja Vu? It seems that Jan Brewer has been taking Janet Napolitano lessons lately She's proposing a budget based on her wish list and not economic reality.
She touts our economic recovery and yet proposes the sort of budget that will kill a continued recovery.
Jan or Janet, looks like any differences might be evaporating.4 months ago
When is it the domain of the national government to deem agricultural lands in Arizona to become non-productive experiments in an energy source unable to produce the electricity on the nameplate, rather only generating on a good day at best 3% of what the installers promised.
Seems to me that the national government holds the land in trust for the people of Arizona - not for this Administrations latest folly.4 months ago
Rich Crandall never did anything that wasn't in his own self interest.
Mark, what you can't quite get your arms around is the simple fact that guns don't kill anyone - the individual who possess the gun does the killing - the gun is simply the tool.
How do you account for the dramatic increase in school attacks in China? Just 2 days prior to the tragedy in CT 20 young school children were killed at their school in China - by a madman wielding two long knives.
Address mental illness, not even being mentioned. Assault looking weapons aren't your enemy - compared to the annual death toll in Chicago how many semi-automatic rife deaths annually are there Mark?
You haven't done you homework on violent crime in the UK or Australia where they collected all the citizens guns... or closer to Arizona, Mexico where they have very strict gun control laws.
Stop the knee jerk reactions and lets start to focus on the real problem with violence in America, look at the video games our kids play and the movies we let our children watch.
If our unborn don't deserve life, what message does that send to our youth? We live in a Culture of Death and all you can do is yap about inanimate objects killing people??4 months ago
