The comments and quotes of both Gov. Brewer and Huppenthal are not only inane, they are irrelevant and totally non responsive.
Don't show me your values (talk is cheap)...show me your budget! And the Arizona budget (past, present and future) is dismal at best.
Where's the beef? Better yet...where's the money? Oh yeah...there is none because Brewer, Huppenthal and the rest of the Tealiban fundamentalists insured that there was none by cutting the educational funding by over $2 billion and decided to increase prison funding instead.
The faster Arizona gets rid of these fundamentalist extremists, the better off Arizona will be.

Patterson is still swallowing the Republican baloney about how Obama is putting the welfare worker back on the dole...these were elements requested by Republican governors from around the US in order to make the admin of the program easier and more flexible...just ask Mitt Romney...he was one of those governors!9 months ago
We saw the same strategy for SB 1070....wait, wait, wait...and then sign another unconstitutional, bad law , only this time, she'll wait to then decide to NOT do the right thing...and we'll hear about fiscal responsibility, affordability, individual responsibility...blah, blah, blah.
The end result is that 20% the people of Arizona will remain in poverty, the budget will be balanced by students, children, the ill, the elderly and the middle class (what's left of them).9 months ago
This woman's whole line of reasoning is flawed from the start, but this is nothing new for Ms. Brown.
For starters, let's get rid of all the stop lights and stop signs in intersections because we all know that someone is going to run the stop sign or the red light.
And we regulate cars for safety reasons...should we get rid of drivers licenses because we all know that someone is going to use a fake license at some point.
Ms. Brown hasn't written anything lately that would pass a high school freshman's writing course in logic or reason.
This paper ought to consider getting rid of these sophomoric bloggers and raise the bar...at least just a little bit so it's not so insulting to most people's intelligence.9 months ago
Congress packages and approves a budget sent to Obama...and now it's an Obama proposal! Huh?
According to the Tealban, government doesn't create jobs, but when it comes to cutting the budget packaged by Congress, the Obama administration is responsible for the potential lose of jobs that were created by the government in the first place. I confused...which is it? Job creator or not?10 months ago
Leon, you can't even hold a logical or a rational thought or at least you can't seem to be able to express it in a clear and concise manner. If there were a standard for this media space which required some minimum level of veracity and logic, your emotional little (bigoted) rants would never see the light of day on this media site.10 months ago
Observation: "For years, Americans have been abundantly blessed with a mostly free-market health-care system in which competent physicians at state-of-the-art health-care facilities deliver the latest medical care. Yes, that care comes at a cost, but the alternative, which Obamacare will certainly create, is rationing."
Response: While the US ranks number one in the most expensive healthcare system in the world, it ranks 37th in the world according the the World health Organization.
Observation: "Section 1411 of the law will levy a 3.8 percent "Medicare tax" on capital gains, dividends, rents and royalties." And goes on to say that the whopping 3.8% is on the income as described above is on those earning over $250,000 annually.
Response: If you are making that kind of dough on passive income, the chances are you really aren't middle class.
Observation: How is it no one...especially Ms. Brown, isn't bellyaching about the federal highway system funded 90% by the federal government and 10% by the states. Well, federally funded medical care is almost exactly the same...mostly federally funded and the function (road building) is provided by private service providers (private construction companies).
Ms. Brown shows once again she has nothing substantial to offer except an ideology that compels her to bellow against a President she disagrees with on an extremist, fundamentalist level.10 months ago
Take any metric and by any and every measure, Arizona schools are failing and the failure is even greater when you start to compare Arizona students to students across the globe.
Almost 50% of students graduating from an Arizona high school don't qualify for a college or university.
About 30% of Arizona students drop out of high school before completing their studies.
Over $2 billion has been cut out of the educational budget by our legislature and Governor here in Arizona (K- University) in the last two years.
We have more Veterans in Arizona who are homeless and in our prison and jail system than we do in our university system.
The per student funding levels have been rolled back to 1960's inflation adjusted levels and we rank 48 out of 50 in that funding category.
20% of the entire population of Arizona lives at or below the federal poverty level.
50% of all advanced degrees in the STEM areas are awarded to non US citizens, and once those non US students are done with their studies, they are promptly required to leave the country (brain drain). We are educating our future competition.
Two thirds of all jobs that will be created in Arizona will require a post secondary education, training or certification.
In the meantime, our Superintendent of Public Instruction, John Huppenthal, the person who is supposed to be advocating for public education in Arizona, hides in his little bunker near the Capitol trying to figure out how to keep the DoEd's computers from imploding because the computers are so ancient, the original suppliers don't support any of the hardware or software any more. And his predecessor, Tom Horne, colluded with the Legislature to help dismantle the Arizona public school system on every level.
The disdain for public education in Arizona has reached an all time high with the rise of the extremist, fundamentalist politicians at a time when the basic American value for education is needed now more than ever.10 months ago
Why this woman continues to have a presence in this media is absolutely baffling. Other than her tea party rants, she has nothing to say of any importance.10 months ago
Q.) What does SB 1070 got to do with human and drugs smuggling, or street and prison gangs?
A) Absolutely nothing...never did...never will
But what SB 1070 has done is misdirect needed public safety resources and turned our political attention to a piece of legislation that was never funded, never implemented, and certainly never even relevant to the problems at hand.
Even Joe Arpaio agrees and has been quoted over and over that with or without SB 1070, his job will not change one bit. So, for all those supporters of Joe, why the big deal over SB 1070?
Hello, McFly...it's a nothing piece of legislation when it comes to securing the border nor will it ever stop drug or human smuggling and it absolutely does nothing to address the problem of street and prison gangs.
The faster Arizona rids itself of extremist, fundamentalist and ideologues, the faster we'll solve the real problems with real solutions.11 months ago
