It doesn't matter how the Republicans try to cover their tracks with the damage they have done by ignoring and insulting voters time and time again they won't get elected for another 10 years. Those who claim to be patriots and love Freedom while watching it being torn away from Arizonans are the worst kind of self-serving and despicable tyrants and cowards as well. That's why they didn't ask the voters about this, because they knew it would fail if it was taken to the voters. GOP Cowards!Feb 10, 2012
Please indicate where I said I supported amnesty. I said it is a complex issue that merits discussion about how the needs on both sides of the issue can be met, no where in my comments did I state granting amnesty.
It is a chicken and egg discussion about the papers. Which comes first? How do you know who to ask for papers? Do you ask papers of everyone? If not then who do you ask papers of? If you do ask papers of everyone how is that not like the old school Russia version of life you fight so passionately against?
This is exactly the problem. People who make erroneous assumptions and stand in the way of civil discourse about this important problem, a problem that needs a viable solution. It's not all this or that, right, left, liberal, conservative and all that noise that is added to the discussion is just that...noise.
But the actual points are :
That there needs to be a way for agriculture in particular to be able to employ a large number of people at a low cost because people do not want $10 a head lettuce. If there was a system to make it easier for people who are able and willing to do the work at a low cost to come here and be healthy and safe, do the work and go home at the end of the season. Then, I think that is a policy worth developing and pursuing in a reasonable manner. This is the American way of doing things offering opportunity. This is what has happened since the beginning of the country except then it was slavery, something I would hope you'd agree is no longer considered in fashion. Perhaps you would disagree. So if no slavery which I am working under the assumption that slavery is bad. Then some way to make sure things are done in an orderly and efficient way. An immigration and migrant system that takes way too long to process, costing way more money than is reasonable to expect migrant workers to pay given the wages given produces a system that doesn't work. So I say let's fix the parts that are broken.
The law. Is it a well-written law or is it a poorly-written law? If someone made a law that you must watch your children die of starvation or be punished. I am making an assumption that you would find a way to get around that law. What is the law asking and is that reasonable? Could it be written better? Is it addressing the issue, is it solving the problem(s)?
But as I have not been diagnosed by a professional as being insane. I will not argue this point with --to borrow a term being used a lot these days--demagogues. I am only putting out some points in the spirit of civil discourse that impacts a state and a country that we all care about very much.
As I do have much work that I must do today I will have to leave it with this post.Jan 24, 2012
And Tea Party Patriot fascism and tyranny that your group represents is EXACTLY the definition of un-American. Jan 24, 2012
Tea Party Patriot- How do you define the "natural order of things"?
By the way your name calling is nonsensical and I could care less what you call me. As far as I can see your definition of sanity is indeed insane, so by that argument the more insane you think me the more I breathe a sigh of relief that I am truly sane. If you were to agree with me I would strongly consider making an appointment with a therapist right away. Jan 24, 2012
I am NOT saying that illegal immigration is ok! What I'm saying is that instead of incarcerating and deporting which is costly we should take a step back and ask some questions.
If there illegal immigration is prevalent there is a reason for it.
1) A desire for cheap labor to keep cost of goods at a certain price point.
2) The need of people of other countries to make money to take to their family.
3) The need for a labor system that allows easier migrant flow to come and go as US labor intensive industries need them and to go home in the off seasons. This should include a migrant worker system that
A) Checks the health status of those coming and going
B) Does a criminal background check
C) Allows a more efficient and reasonable system for both the worker and those needing the labor to do the right thing.
4) Have an immigration/migrant system that works, not this disaster that is the current system.
I would be open to some reporting where employers prove they gave American citizens first priority to the work. Yet I would want to do that without placing too much of a record keeping burden keeping employers from the task of running their business and adding more costs. Alabama thought they could get by without migrants and had their crops rot in the fields http://bit.ly/x4BW2V .
There should be a separation between lumping all people in one group for example drug cartels and criminals and people trying to make a living within a broken and dangerous system.
Arizona also based a lot of it's economy on tourism. Many places in the US thrive on tourism. It is also what allows the United States to hold the position it does among nations. That it is thought to be a welcoming "melting-pot" of immigrants. To lose that important piece of the US identity will not make citizens safer nor more prosperous. Tourists will go elsewhere and that will deprive Arizona and the US of economic opportunity.
How does it make it a police state? How else can a population know who is "supposed" to be here or not? Neighbors telling on neighbors? Identity card check points? What are the logistics? Who is here on vacation or who is here to stay? It is a matter of what the state must become in order to make it happen. Are you kicking out the Canadians, Eastern Europeans, South Asians and other groups as well? How do you "spot" and illegal? How do they present themselves differently? There are United States citizens with thick accents, different looks, different clothes. How do you single out the illegals without a process similar to a police state? How does that get done? Rasmussen reports along with Heritage Foundation and Fox news are propaganda tools. I wouldn't place all my eggs in that basket. All Americans believe in legal immigration. It's how to go about it that we differ on. Living in a police state is un-American. Jan 24, 2012
Pearce has found a job where he can be himself. A marginalized group of extremists is exactly where he will feel most at home, he's among "his people" the narrow-minded hate people that he can lead and they can all tell each other how great they are. Unfortunately, there are Americans with baser ideology that would subscribe to his lower thinking so I wouldn't write the group off. Not sure what to think about this development yet. Jan 24, 2012
I don't know enough about the maps to be able to say if they are good or bad. What I do know is that I do not trust Jan Brewer's judgment at all. I also know that if the Republicans keep tampering with a process they were told specifically to stay the (offensive language) out of it's not going to matter where Jan and friends draw their lines. In response to her overreach this state will go to any half competent Independent or Democrat. Jan and friends will then have plenty of time to study their well drawn maps at home as they will no longer be in office come next election. Nov 12, 2011
Your so sweet really. You know you lost the Pearce battle so now you bring Obama into it. I don't blame you, this has to be difficult. But it is what's best for Arizona. By the way, the bombing Libya thing actually worked out well. The Fast and Furious thing was a mess, more will have to be seen about how that shakes out. Obama didn't, isn't and won't grant straight amnesty to immigrants. So all that aside how 'bout this Pearce race huh?
"They were doing what they thought politicians do, what comes naturally," Berman said. "They probably were a little surprised at how the people reacted to it."
That's the thing. Shown even more with the newest Pearce/ Brewer scandal and theft of Democracy of the people of Arizona the Redistricting Scandal. They just think that's that way to do things. That's why Pearce is going to be booted out in a few days because he feels that stealing Democracy from the people is "business as usual" blocking them out of the system, creating black lists, posting guards outside the Senate, running through his little underground rat tunnel at the capitol so no one can say "Hey what about our rights?". That's what got him here.
That and the laundry list that has been well aired. Cortes, Fiesta Bowl, ALEC, MVD, wife issues, kid issues, backing up a girlfriend beater, brother and niece issues, killing two people by not allowing them transplant just because they are poor in this crappy economy issues there's a lot of issues.
So I see why you two bozos wanna make it Obama's fault, but it's not. It's Pearce's fault for not listening to what his constituents were telling him. It's his pride's fault for thinking he knows better than everyone. It's his fear's fault for overtaking him and making him go to a crazy place where the state can't and shouldn't follow. Yes, more recalls are possible, but hopefully without Pearce's influence as Senate President they won't be necessary. We'll just have to monitor the situation and see how it pans out. I can't wait until Tuesday!Nov 5, 2011
The scammed are people like Turley-Hansen, Matt Tolman and those who are still afraid of him. That groups grows substantially smaller every day. What I love about this piece is that it shows the continued desperation of the Pearce and Constatin Querard, Chuck Coughlin types, and i find the more unhappy they are the more joyous I become. When District 18 does the right thing and votes Pearce out for good, Arizona can take a huge step toward restoring its dignity and hopefully it's economy as well. The only fool here are people like Turley-Hansen. Bullies!Nov 1, 2011
