So often I have seen situationally unaware women pushing strollers across intersections. I've wondered why they look so blase and aren't looking around for the distracted driver, drunk driver, or the driver whose blind spot they may be in. I think that such pedestrians may not be drivers themselves, so they don't realize how easy it is to make an error while driving.
When I push my child in the stroller, I'm constantly looking around, especially over my shoulder to see if someone may be making a left-hand turn and could hit us. I trot quickly from one side of the street to the other. And even when I walk through a parking lot with my little one in tow, we always pick her up. We do this, specifically so that we can dart quickly with her if a car should come piling towards us.Mar 12, 2012
I am so sad to hear this. This is a great store. the employees, the organization, the kids activities, the cafe with its super yummy drinks, and the excellent prices! I am SO DISAPPOINTED! I go here all the time. If I feel this bad, the staff must feel terrible.

$45 million is a lot! What exactly will be done with all of our tax money? The state, cities and counties are supposed to buy some of these foreclosed houses - and then do what with them? Are they getting into the real estate business now? Or they're supposed to spend the funds on redevelopment? What does that mean?
Doesn't the current administration understand that most people just want to see less spending?Sep 12, 2010
If not for this program, I never could have sent my child to private high school. The anonymous reporter seems to think that since the non-Catholic Christian schools have low Hispanic enrollment that the students who do attend must be rich white kids.
Maybe it's news to the writer that lots of white families count on the tax credits to be able to afford private schooling. Hispanics generally choose Catholic schools, so measuring the increase in Hispanics at non-Catholic schools lacks significance.
If there have been abuses of the money, i.e., STO's funneling funds away from scholarships, then may the dishonesty be stopped. But I certainly hope that an improved program remains.
And by the way, Chandler Guy, they're not really getting state money. The State is allowing a tax credit to those who make donations. Aug 21, 2010

Thank you Mike Sakal for a good article. It was full of detail and made for an interesting read. Also I appreciated the lack of English errors. I was reading an ABC15 online article last week that had misspellings, punctuation errors, and capitalization errors. I suspected that a student had written the article, as I understand is common practice now. I looked up the writer's bio on their website and it was one of their regular adult writers.
So anyway, glad to read an example of real journalism.Aug 1, 2010
