The boys from Phoenix Brophy wasted no time in once again placing their stamp as a swim power in Arizona, cruising to victory in the 10th annual Thunder Wolf Classic at Chandler High School. The Broncos scored 447 points, outdistancing Scottsdale Desert Mountain (211) and third-place Scottsdale Chaparral (188).
Desert Mountain remained undefeated on the young season, improving to 2-0 with a 49-7 win Friday over host Phoenix Carl Hayden in a 5A Division II nonregion contest.
Jessica Mitchell had a game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning, scoring Whitney Phillips as Desert Mountain (23-13) hung on to beat Tucson Sunnyside, 2-1, in the 5A Division II state softball tournament Tuesday at Rose Mofford Sports Complex.

The meet came down to the last event, the boys 1,600 meter relay, and Chandler outran Desert Vista in the event and earned just enough points to put the Wolves over the top in the overall team standings at the Wynn/Zucco Tempe Relays, which concluded Saturday at Sun Angel Stadium.
The team title has been decided. The final-round excitement will have to come from a quartet of girls in search of the 5A Division II individual girls golf championship.
The top-ranked Gilbert girls volleyball team continued to roll Tuesday, defeating visiting Chandler, 25-14, 25-21, to keep its region record unblemished this season.
It may have been a meeting of two elite teams likely headed deep into the postseason, but all it meant to the two coaches was how much work still must be done.
