Mesa's Red Mountain High School Academic Decathlon team won the state competition, held Friday and Saturday at ASU West. The team garnered 48,408 points after competing in 10 events: essay, speech and interview plus seven written tests focused on mathematics, science, economics, language and literature, music, art and social science.

Curt Canaday of Mesa’s Mountain View High School was recently honored with the 2011 Coach Jesse Parker Legacy Award. Canaday’s dedication as an educator, “who inspires students to become outstanding members of society,” was cited by the Coach Jesse Parker Legacy Foundation in giving the honor.

In a showcase of public, private and parochial schools, today’s Tribune Education Expo will give parents the chance to research the best education options for their children.
Jessica Good and her classmates from Westwood High School had a lot on their agendas. “Right now, I’m trying to write a resolution that would monitor the conduct of peacekeepers but maintain the sovereignty of the nations they are in, during civil war,” said Good, 17.

The Tribune has selected five outstanding graduating high school seniors as the All-Tribune Scholars of 2009.
