    Navy Federal Credit Union will open a branch in Mesa on Monday to serve its 10,000 Valley customers. The branch will open at 4212 E. Juanita Ave., in a Walmart shopping center. The credit union originally served Navy personnel and their families, but in 2008 expanded to include Air Force, Army and Department of Defense members and their families. Navy Federal is the world’s largest credit union with $46 billion in assets and more than 3.7 million members.

    TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State University on Tuesday will officially open a new veterans center on its Tempe campus named after ex-NFL star and Army Ranger Pat Tillman.

    The Pat Tillman Veterans Center is a 3,300-square-foot facility in the university's Memorial Union that will provide academic support to the school's growing enrollment of military veterans.

    The goal of the center is to help veterans make a smooth transition to school life.

    Tillman played linebacker for Arizona State from 1994-97 and went on to an NFL career with the Cardinals. He enlisted in the Army after three seasons in the NFL.

    He died in Afghanistan in 2004 in a friendly fire incident.
