TUCSON - Style points don't count toward power rankings. Good thing for Gilbert Christian's boys basketball team following a 56-45 win Saturday over Thatcher that could be described as ugly.
The Phoenix Country Day boys tennis team came up short of a 1A/2A state team title Saturday when Thatcher beat the Eagles, 5-2.
It was a source of pride for Chandler Valley Christian. No one had beaten the Trojans on the field this season.

As long as Tempe Prep took care of the football, the third-seeded Knights would have success. For much of Saturday afternoon Tempe Prep looked stronger than No. 6 Thatcher in their Division V state quarterfinal game at Higley High School.
Playing Valley Christian is like pushing against a train. Once it gets rolling, you’re helpless to stop it. More often than not, the Trojans’ train has rolled over teams via the 42-point mercy rule, including the first two rounds of the state playoffs.
