Perhaps no living poet other than Maya Angelou shares the same respect as Nikki Giovanni.
It’s pretty ironic that a comedy called “That Awkward Moment” is radically lacking in awkward moments. The film isn’t without some potentially uncomfortable setups like walking in on two people having sex, realizing you’ve just had sex with a hooker, and showing up to a fancy party in a racy outfit. “That Awkward Moment” never goes all the way with its awkward humor, though. Scenes often feel incomplete, as if the director yelled, “cut,” before getting to the punch line. As a result, the film fails to deliver any genuine awkward humor or humor in general.
’Twas the afternoon of Christmas and all through the house, presents were opened and appetites doused. Get away from the mess and out on the town; these are the places fun can be found.

Finding a faux snow- and candy cane-filled homage to Santa Claus is easy; just look at your local mall for the line snaking around the giant Christmas tree. Honing in on an experience that makes as much of the Christmas story — the story of the birth of Jesus — is another matter.

To compensate for a lack of change at the top of the boys basketball landscape as the 2012-2013 season begins, the girls basketball world might pick up the slack.

The 2013 Highland Thanksgiving girls basketball tournament begins this week (Nov. 25-27, 29-30) at Highland and Mesquite high schools in Gilbert.
Some cooks like to change up the Thanksgiving meal — a sous vide turkey here, a sweet potato souffle there. But on a holiday dedicated to tradition, innovation can spark revolt.

Here's a list of East Valley high school athletes who've signed letters of intent during this early signing period. This list will be continually updated.
Sunnyslope 7 6 0 14 -- 27
10. Sahuaro 8-2...
9. Mountain View (Marana) 7-3...
8. Sunnyslope 10-0...
7. Marcos de Niza 6-4...
6. Campo Verde 8-2...
Campo Verde’s 30-0 loss to Mesquite sends the Coyotes down from No. 4 to No. 6 (it was a tossup whether to drop the Coyotes to No. 6 or No. 7). It might have been further but Marcos stays at No. 7 after the Padres lost a shootout with Div. III-powerhouse Saguaro on Thursday night, and the Padres could have moved down a spot or two, but we’d still take Marcos to beat Phoenix Sunnsylope if the schools played each other (Sunnyslope moved up a spot due to others’ losses despite only beating St. Mary’s 27-24 on Friday night). Tucson Sahuaro lost and fell to No. 10 after allowing 22 fourth-quarter points to Vail Cienega.
