  1. article Ferrin: Socialism suffocates prosperity

    Tuesday, September 4, 2012 12:49 pm

Socialism/Communism requires more bureaucrats than any other form of government because it has to control every aspect of life. The more any government does, the bigger it has to be, i.e., bigger buildings, more employees, more intrusions into the private sector. Government growth requires higher taxes to pay for higher governmental spending.

  • Social Security Good Deal

FILE - This February 2005 file photo shows trays of printed social security checks, in Philadelphia, waiting to be mailed from the U.S. Treasury. People retiring today are part of the first generation of workers who have paid more in Social Security taxes during their careers than they will receive in benefits after they retire. It’s a historic shift that will only get worse for future retirees, according to an analysis by The Associated Press. Previous generations got a much better bargain, mainly because payroll taxes were very low when Social Security was enacted in the 1930s and remained so for decades. (AP Photo/Bradley C. • article Poppy is a social butterfly

    Wednesday, July 4, 2012 8:43 am

What a little social butterfly Poppy is. She LOVES everyone. She is happy to greet every person or canine on her walks. Quickly flipping over for a belly rub — one of her favorite things. Actually, there’s not much that isn’t Poppy’s favorite thing. Poppy is a young gal with a lot of energy to burn. She will need a home with lots of daily activity to keep her mind and body busy. Walks, jogs, dog parks, hanging out at the local cafes all interest her. Signing up for a training class will be ideal for this youngster to learn a few more manners and to walk better on a leash.

  • Social Security COLA

FILE - In this Feb. 11, 2005 file photo, trays of printed social security checks wait to be mailed from the U.S. Treasury's Financial Management services facility in Philadelphia. Social Security recipients will get a raise in January _ their first increase in benefits since 2009. Experts expect the increase will be about 3.5 percent. Some 55 million beneficiaries find out for sure Wednesday when an inflation measure that determines the annual cost-of-living adjustment is released. (AP Photo/Bradley C. Bower, File)

  • Movies in Social Media

In this publicity image released by flickme.com, Mitch Galbraith, CEO of flickme.com is shown at the companies' office in San Mateo, Calif. Digital movies might not yet have the equivalent of a theater experience, with roaring crowds chomping on popcorn, but they are getting more social. Studios have increasingly looked to social media and Facebook, in particular, as a distribution platform. The early inroads have been experimental, but social streaming is a bright new hope for a Hollywood looking to counter sagging DVD sales. (AP Photo/flickme.com)

  • The FBI gets social with lawbreakers

In this Oct. 13, 2009, file photo, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scoville displays part of the Facebook page, and an enlarged profile photo, of fugitive Maxi Sopo in Seattle. The Feds are on Facebook. And MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter, too. • article Lovable Tilly is a social butterfly

    Wednesday, June 20, 2012 8:52 am

This sweet gal has a few pounds to lose but she’s happy to go walking with you, all the while wagging her tail. She loves all people, is intelligent, kind and gentle. She’s very curious, almost amazed, of all the different sights and smells. Tilly is a puppy at heart and seems to crave play time, as well as snuggle time. She adores her belly being rubbed and big bear hugs. Tilly is such a sweet girl and is ready for a home that will give her the much needed play and love time she deserves.

  • article Kennedy off base with socialism comparisons

    Friday, February 10, 2012 3:00 pm

It took Don Kennedy three paragraphs to get to Hitler in his condemnation of President Obama's asking for a grant of authority as part of his top secret clandestine behind-the-scenes State of The Union Address before a joint session of Congress ("Don't allow history to repeat itself: Socialism can lead to dictatorship," AFN, Feb. 1). Compare with Cheney and his hand puppet right-out-there-in-the-open-for-everyone-to-see pedaling bogus reasons for starting a war at the cost of spilled American blood and treasure. Post hoc ergo propter hoc - more powerful than compound interest!
