Socialism/Communism requires more bureaucrats than any other form of government because it has to control every aspect of life. The more any government does, the bigger it has to be, i.e., bigger buildings, more employees, more intrusions into the private sector. Government growth requires higher taxes to pay for higher governmental spending.
FILE - This February 2005 file photo shows trays of printed social security checks, in Philadelphia, waiting to be mailed from the U.S. Treasury. People retiring today are part of the first generation of workers who have paid more in Social Security taxes during their careers than they will receive in benefits after they retire. It’s a historic shift that will only get worse for future retirees, according to an analysis by The Associated Press. Previous generations got a much better bargain, mainly because payroll taxes were very low when Social Security was enacted in the 1930s and remained so for decades. (AP Photo/Bradley C. Bower, File)
What a little social butterfly Poppy is. She LOVES everyone. She is happy to greet every person or canine on her walks. Quickly flipping over for a belly rub — one of her favorite things. Actually, there’s not much that isn’t Poppy’s favorite thing. Poppy is a young gal with a lot of energy to burn. She will need a home with lots of daily activity to keep her mind and body busy. Walks, jogs, dog parks, hanging out at the local cafes all interest her. Signing up for a training class will be ideal for this youngster to learn a few more manners and to walk better on a leash.

Social Security recipients will get a raise in January _ their first increase in benefits since 2009. Experts expect the increase will be about 3.5 percent. Some 55 million beneficiaries find out for sure Wednesday when an inflation measure that determines the annual cost-of-living adjustment is released. (AP Photo/Bradley C. Bower, File)
In this publicity image released by flickme.com, Mitch Galbraith, CEO of flickme.com is shown at the companies' office in San Mateo, Calif. Digital movies might not yet have the equivalent of a theater experience, with roaring crowds chomping on popcorn, but they are getting more social. Studios have increasingly looked to social media and Facebook, in particular, as a distribution platform. The early inroads have been experimental, but social streaming is a bright new hope for a Hollywood looking to counter sagging DVD sales. (AP Photo/flickme.com)

WASHINGTON — The Feds are on Facebook. And MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter, too.
In this Oct. 13, 2009, file photo, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scoville displays part of the Facebook page, and an enlarged profile photo, of fugitive Maxi Sopo in Seattle. The Feds are on Facebook. And MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter, too. U.S. law enforcement agents are following the rest of the Internet world into popular social-networking services, going undercover with false online profiles to communicate with suspects and gather private information, according to an internal Justice Department document that offers a tantalizing glimpse of issues related to privacy and crime fighting.
This free, fun and casual community outreach program includes games and activities for kids of all ages. It provides residents opportunities to have their opinions heard and encourages them to learn about projects affecting Queen Creek - and, of course, the chance to eat ice cream.
A new prepaid debit card could drastically reduce the number of paper Social Security checks mailed each month, therefore saving trees and putting more crooks out of business, treasury officials say.
“Dear Andre’s Dad: I think it would be sad living in a hotel. I’m sorry that you don’t have a home,” reads a letter, printed in a child’s handwriting, hanging on a bulletin board outside Gwen Struble’s first-grade classroom.
NEW YORK - Recent disclosures of massive data leaks at information brokers, banks and retailers have prompted Congress to once again consider tightening access to Social Security numbers, which have evolved into dangerous master keys for fraud.
PHILADELPHIA - They are quarterbacks for a new age, transcending racial stereotypes and tossing aside the accepted notions of how the job should be done once the ball is snapped.
Over the past several years, you might have heard about socially responsible investing, sometimes known as “sustainable investing” or “ethical investing.” Probably the most common way to take part in this type of investing is through socially responsible mutual funds — but are these funds suitable for your overall financial goals?

The best way to describe Tilly is happy-go-lucky. Her tail is always in motion, along with a big smile on her face. She practically oozes love and joy out of her fur. This sweet gal has a few pounds to lose but she’s happy to go walking with you, all the while wagging her tail. She loves all people, is intelligent, kind and gentle. She’s very curious, almost amazed, of all the different sights and smells. Tilly is a puppy at heart and seems to crave play time, as well as snuggle time. She adores her belly being rubbed and big bear hugs. Tilly is such a sweet girl and is ready for a home that will give her the much needed play and love time she deserves.

Dear Debt Adviser: I may have to retire soon for health reasons. If I default on my unsecured credit card debt, can my Social Security benefits or pension be garnished? — David
It took Don Kennedy three paragraphs to get to Hitler in his condemnation of President Obama's asking for a grant of authority as part of his top secret clandestine behind-the-scenes State of The Union Address before a joint session of Congress ("Don't allow history to repeat itself: Socialism can lead to dictatorship," AFN, Feb. 1). Compare with Cheney and his hand puppet right-out-there-in-the-open-for-everyone-to-see pedaling bogus reasons for starting a war at the cost of spilled American blood and treasure. Post hoc ergo propter hoc - more powerful than compound interest!
