    Last summer Mesa teen Mia Martinez was severely injured in a boating accident at Saguaro Lake. This week, Mia and her mother, Angela, were able to personally thank Sgt. Michael Boccino of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department, the first responder to her at the scene of the accident. Their reunion took place at Phoenix Children's Hospital during EMS Responders and Child Injury Prevention Day. The quickness of the response to Mia not only saved her life, but meant doctors at Phoenix Children's Hospital were able to perform a landmark surgery that resulted in the reattachment of her foot, which was severed by the rope of a passing boat.
