    Under music director Wynton Marsalis, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performs a vast repertoire. Composed of 15 soloists and ensemble players, the big band has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center resident orchestra since 1992 and makes Mesa Arts Center its home on trips to the Valley. A talk with saxophonist and Northwestern University Director of Jazz Studies Victor Goines, hosted by KJZZ radio personality Blaise Lantana, precedes the orchestra’s show at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

    Celebrated saxophonist Dave Koz appeared this fall on an episode of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” and his new CD, “Hello Tomorrow,” debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and iTunes’ Jazz Album chart. Now Koz is popping up in Mesa with South African singer/guitarist Jonathan Butler, keyboardist Brian Culbertson and Dutch sax star Candy Dulfer. The artists will perform hits from their respective catalogues and a variety of holiday standards during their “Dave Koz & Friends: Smooth Jazz Christmas” concert.
