Arizona booksellers and others are asking a federal judge to void a new law aimed at “revenge porn” because it also could land them in prison.
Is America’s center rising again? It certainly seems that way.
Americans believe in science. Generally, most of us have faith in medicine. A majority of Americans, though ever-thinning, tell pollsters they’re religious and yet we’ve reached virtual consensus about going to the hospital when we’re sick. We are, in some cases, obligated by law to seek medical care. Courts have found the denial of medical care to children, when it results in their death, to be a crime. In the eyes of the law, science trumps religious fervor.
I heard Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and others state that President Barack Obama could NEVER be impeached under any circumstance because the American people will not kick a black man out of office. Is America that morally bankrupt? One person said he would not be impeached even if he committed murder. That is true, because the murder of four Americans can be laid squarely at his feet.
An Arizona judge on Friday refused to grant a divorce for a transgender Arizona man who gave birth to three children after beginning to change his sex from female.
I must take issue with a comment made in a recent vent, regarding so-called hate-mongering from the right.
“A group of parents in petitioning Mesa Schools to give teachers a raise. The average teaching salary in MPS is $54,398. If teachers can’t figure out how to live on a salary that is nearly double the average salary for the general population of Mesa, how are they smart enough to teach children?”
“Just spent the day doing my federal and state tax returns. The good news is I don’t owe anything. The bad news is that, for the first time in 40 years, I didn’t earn enough to owe any income tax.”
“Arizonans are known for their cheapness when it comes to public education so expect a big run on Wal-Mart greeters when it comes to filling school resource officers positions.”
"How come those who contend they love America so much are the ones who want to secede?"
I am so tempted to write the words “I told you so” over and over again up to the 500-word limit allowed for a commentary in this newspaper. It would be so easy to gloat about how liberals won and conservatives lost. It would make me giddy to point out how Arizona is so out-of-touch with the rest of the Left Coast.
“The people who call Thanksgiving Day ‘Turkey Day’ must not have anything to be thankful for.”

“To the venter who thinks Linda Turley-Hansen’s Sunday commentary was ‘such hate and vitriol’: What a pity you can’t recognize truth when you see it. She is factual and accurate in all she writes. Take off your ‘liberal glasses’ for once.”
Remember a year ago, when the circus came to TV?
NEW YORK — Beneath Bob Schieffer's Southern charm is the tough spine of someone used to dealing with politicians. The moderator of Monday's final presidential debate will need it, because it has been open season on the other journalists who have done that job this campaign.
“If people would give up their Medicare and Social Security we could afford our wars, tax cuts and weapons systems. Wake up, people, and stop being so greedy.”
Are you as depressed as I am? No, not about the D-Backs’ up and mostly down season and not about the Cardinals’ inability to find a quarterback or a line to protect him. No, I’m depressed about this year’s election, the most disturbing election in my memory.
Are you as depressed as I am?
Mitt Romney’s tough talk on foreign policy shows why we should always check the military service records of self-proclaimed superpatriots. Like Dick Cheney, John Bolton, Paul Wolfowitz, Rush Limbaugh and other Republican chicken hawks, Romney was a Vietnam draft dodger, whose five sons have similarly avoided military service.
“I wish the NRA would make up its mind. On one hand they lobby for laws to stand your ground, and on the other hand they lobby for assault rifles. The very term assault means to violently take someone else’s ground. They should lobby to control the amount of ammunition a citizen can store in a residential area. I would like to know if my neighbor has enough ammo and powder stored to blow my house off its foundation. The carrier of his homeowner’s insurance would like to know along with the fire department just for the safety of the community. I guess that makes me a survivalist.”
“I think we should boycott the Olympics. They should be wearing things made in United States not in China or any other country than the United States. Also do not donate to the Olympics.”
Are President Barack Obama and the Democrats political toast?
“Describing Rep. Daniel Patterson as disorderly, mean spirited, aggressive, unprofessional, counterproductive, intimidating and disrespectful makes me think he is a keeper. I’m sure he will acquire cheating, lying, stealing and drunkenness, then he’ll fit right in.”
You might remember in last month’s column I mused about taming my tongue. I’d like to report I’ve got that problem licked, but it’s not the case. Beware; state publicly that you’re making an effort, and the dark side makes a habit of throwing temptation your way.
