On Dec. 1, Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC) invites the community to the Women & Young Women of Distinction Awards ceremony, where they will acknowledge how they empower girls to reach their full potential. At the ceremony, Leadership, Visionary and Courage Awards will be given to three women and three young women, characterizing their impact on the community.

The program was created to recognize the success of Arizona's most exceptional principals and to train the next generation of school leaders. Henderson is one of 17 statewide finalists.

    Three Mesa Unified School District teachers have been named semifinalists for the Rodel Charitable Foundation's Exemplary Teacher Initiative. The teachers being honored for "extraordinarily high levels in high poverty schools" are: Eleanor Scheman, a kindergarten teacher at Jefferson Elementary School; and James Clemens, a fourth-grade teacher, and Nancy LaSlavic, a third-grade teacher, at Kerr Elementary School.
