But there is no single file or map or database that shows the true landowners, the people behind the clever and colorful corporate names on record with county officials.

The Tribune has announced the promotion of three staff members to newly created deputy editor positions reporting directly to Executive Editor Jim Ripley.

 On Oct. 26, the Tribune reported in a side-by-side printing that a police officer was killed by a drunken driver and that illegal immigration is not as important as crime. The cop article did not report that the drunken driver was in this country illegally, though many other media outlets did.

Sen. John McCain has been using the success of the “surge” to criticize Sen. Barack Obama for his position on Iraq. However, a recent non-partisan Government Accountability Office report noted that while “violence in Iraq has dropped over the past year,” most of the stated goals outlined by President Bush for the surge have not been accomplished.
