Cactus Shadows 25 25 25 -- 3
THIS WEEK’S GAMES
Final scores from Week 3 of the high school football season:
Down by 10 early in the fourth quarter, Dobson scored 13 unanswered points, capped by Zaneil Chatman's 16-yard run with under a minute left, to come from behind and defeat Raymond Kellis on the road, 20-17.
Joe Khulmann rushed for 248 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries to lead host Cactus Shadows to a convincing 55-20 victory over Raymond Kellis.
September has not been one to remember for either team, but this could be Gilbert’s chance to get in the ‘W’ column. Both teams have struggled mightily every which way so far this season, but it’s been tumultuous around Gilbert moreso as new coach Tim Rutt tries his hand at running a program and turning the Tigers around. It’s been rough offensively, as the Tigers have yet to put up double digits in any of its four losses to start the season. After losses to Mesa and Poston Butte, the Mustangs eked out a win over Glendale Raymond S. Kellis two weeks ago, and an easy shutout over Phoenix Maryvale. Dobson has a bit more spring in the step after the past two weeks, but Gilbert is desperate, and the Tigers’ finally get a win as they brace for a b-r-u-t-a-l second half of their schedule...
Prediction: Gilbert 17, Dobson 14
-- Mark Heller
Outlook: Finding an acceptable defense has been quite the struggle for third-year Cactus Shadows coach Greg Davis. The team gave up 42.1 points in 2011 and 32.2 last year, which, not surprisingly, culminated in a 6-14 record over that span. Now that standout quarterback Bryce Kinsler has moved on, outscoring opponents will be even tougher, so defensive improvement seems imperative to find success.
