Families in need of a reprieve from the summer heat can visit the Kiwanis Park indoor wave pool every day throughout the summer.
Along with the sunscreen, book, toys and snacks we haul to our waterside of choice this summer, we need a beach towel or two.
Kiwanis Park's indoor wave pool is open throughout the summer from 1 to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Saturdays. The pool also has a double wave time every Saturday between noon and 3 p.m. [City of Tempe]
As the economy continues to recover, competition is intense in virtually every industry. The auto insurance providers slug it out for market share. At Congressman Matt Salmon’s Town Hall meeting in Gilbert, I asked him why is he and the rest of his colleagues keep trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care)? It has been tried 37 times now to the tune of $55 million of tax payer dollars! He is wasting time and our money using scare tactics to his constituents that simply are not true. His response was he is going to continue to try to repeal Obamacare. No matter what it takes!! That plainly tells me he does not care about spending taxpayer dollars on something that will not pass and using false pretenses, but yet he is the first one to complain about government waste and spending.

Now that June is boiling up all over, as a public service this column will provide, especially to new arrivals, unsolicited advice on summer survival in the Sonoran Desert. When you’re not covering yourself in aloe vera juice to relieve a scalding sunburn, when surfaces inside your car are noticeably less than molten, when you’re watching someone else on TV being carried down from Camelback Mountain giving a thumbs-up to the camera — that’s when you’ll thank me, um, I hope.
The Valley is under an ozone health watch that will continue into Saturday.
