Arizona is appealing a court ruling against a new state law targeting Planned Parenthood.
As your state representatives, we stay current on policy issues all over our country. One of the most troubling is the attack on Planned Parenthood. Some in our state and national government want to prohibit them from providing health care in our community and stop us from being able to choose our own health care provider. It is apparent there is a lack of knowledge and information about this important health care provider.
Star Parker: Within weeks of Fox airing videos of a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute being advised by ACORN "community organizers" on how to evade taxes and set up a prostitution ring, our stalwart Washington legislators voted to cut off federal funds to the organization. But similar publicized abuses at Planned Parenthood -- workers agreeing to cover up rape or earmarking funds to abort black babies -- all captured on video and audio -- produced no similar action in Washington to cut off funds.
Gov. Jan Brewer snubbed a request by Planned Parenthood Arizona to be a participant in this year’s Women’s Health Expo.

When people contribute money to a TV preacher to build an orphanage they expect the funds will be used to build an orphanage, not a theme park. When I contributed funds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation I expected my money would be used to fight breast cancer, not to help pay the overhead of Planned Parenthood. Contributing to Planned Parenthood's overhead is against my religious principles. That the Komen Foundation does not understand this is indeed regrettable. Komen should concentrate on breast cancer research and Planned Parenthood should concentrate on abortions. The two should never be commingled. And this is not "political." It is common sense.
Congress should no longer fund Planned Parenthood. In 2007, Planned Parenthood fully disclosed that they performed 305,310 abortions, while less than 5,000 pregnant women were referred to adoption services. In 2008, $350 million went to Planned Parenthood from the government coffers, and clearly a whole lot of that money funded abortions based on 2007 statistics. I propose that Planned Parenthood close its doors and reopen as two separate entities. One would be euphemistically named “Reproductive Freedom Center” (abortions wink, wink); the other, “Neighborhood (bona fide) Health Clinic.” The latter would offer care and advice on women’s health like ovarian, cervical and breast cancer screenings, infertility and the like. This health clinic might even offer birth control information.

Congressman David Schweikert, tagged the most-conservative freshman in Congress, recently voted with his House brethren to bar all federal funding for Planned Parenthood. His vote, disguised as a budget-saving and pro-life measure, is an attack on contraception and women’s health. Incredible, considering that the overwhelming majority of Americans, including a majority of all political persuasions, say they support birth control.
