With the recent Newtown tragedy we are again forced to look at the question of our current gun control legislation. We have lost count of the victims of these horrific events and yet they continue. How can we accept the approximately 30,000 deaths each year from firearms (murders, suicides and accidents) without it screaming to us that “Enough is enough”! Have we become so immune to these events that it doesn’t matter any more? That is almost the equivalent of the U.S. Vietnam dead repeated every year.

In an age where multi-tasking is ever more being considered essential to our survival, driving and texting is without doubt the most stupid and dangerous, and yet it continues unabated.

It is both tedious and infuriating to read that current laws are inept at dealing with the sale of so called designer drugs from the smoke shops that engage in this trade. How could it be possible that they are allowed to peddle these drugs under the guise of “herbal remedies” but not for human consumption, yet clearly the contents are used in ways not permitted for consumption?

With more than 45 years driving experience on various continents, it is astonishing to witness such poor driving standards in the Phoenix area. It seems a matter of routine that all drivers exceed the posted speed limit no matter what the prevailing conditions.
