Gov. Janet Napolitano has rejected two bills dearly wanted by Republican lawmakers, opening a door for a special session this summer and triggering a political feud that will loom over the 2006 election season.

The fact that Steve Yarbrough, Eddie Farnsworth and Andy Biggs are running unopposed in the East Valley (districts 21 and 22) is almost criminal. Could the voters be represented by any three people more self-serving and ridiculous? I don’t think so.
Our ideal legislators are people like Rich Crandall and Cecil Ash, two politicians who put the state and their voters before their party, are willing to work with others and consider issues on their own merit. Those who fall on the extreme ends of the right or left hamper the political process and only widen the divide that has engulfed our state. Given that, here are our endorsements for the Arizona Legislature in our East Valley districts:
Illegal immigration enforcement
Worsening budget shortfalls will prompt many state lawmakers to ask a basic question when they return to work this month: What must government provide its citizens?
BUDGET BILL: The Virginia Budget Bill for 2009 rests on a person’s lap during a budget briefing before a joint session of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance committees Dec. 17, at the Capitol in Richmond, Va. Forty-one states and Washington, D.C., faced combined budget gaps exceeding $42 billion after fiscal year 2009 spending plans were approved, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. The situation could be almost twice as bad the following fiscal year based on early estimates that 38 states provided to the center.
The stakes for the November election were raised drastically last week when hard-line conservatives racked up victories across the state, jeopardizing the agendas of not only Democrats and the governor but moderate Republicans as well.
