Chaparral Firebirds
Chaparral has demonstrated on both sides of the ball why it will be the favorite in the 5A-II state playoffs, scoring with ease on offense and playing stifling defense. The Firebirds clicked on all cylinders again on Friday, easily taking apart host St. Mary’s, 63-13 at Phoenix College’s Hoy Stadium.
Salpointe drove 73 yards for the game-winning touchdown with just more than a minute left to defeat Chaparral, 27-20, in a Division II football matchup on Friday.
Backup quarterback Sean Paul Brophy began the second half holding a clipboard on the sideline. He ended it as the biggest man on the Chaparral campus after leading the Firebirds to one of the wildest comebacks in school history, 30-27, over Notre Dame.
The three-time defending state champions seem to be catching stride at the right time.
Another week, another mid-game quarterback change for Chaparral. And for the second week in a row, the change led to a come from behind victory, as the Firebirds rallied to defeat Mesquite 40-20 on Friday.
It didn't take long for Scottsdale Chaparral to put a damper on Scottsdale Horizon's upset bid on Friday, and in the process, the Huskies playoff hopes.
