The Arizona Department of Public Safety has identified two men killed when their small sport utility vehicle crashed into a commercial vehicle during a dust storm in south-central Arizona.

Emergency crews shut down Interstate 10 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Saturday evening after a serious collision flipped two vehicles and sent several people to the hospital, according to authorities.

Drivers will find two closed Loop 101 segments this weekend as crews continue to pave over concrete with rubberized asphalt.

PHOENIX - Multi-vehicle accidents on Interstate 8 caused by a dust storm took two lives Wednesday and injured 12 others near the rural community of Stanfield that closed the highway in both directions for several hours, authorities said.

Traffic along eastbound Interstate 10 near Casa Grande will be restricted Wednesday and Thursday as crews fix a section of roadway that melted during a fire after last week’s fatal multivehicle collision. Arizona Department of Transportation crews will remove the damaged asphalt and repave that section of highway. Traffic will be restricted to one lane from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. both days. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph. Drivers should be alert for construction equipment and personnel and are urged to drive safely through the work zone.

“Police chiefs meeting to decide to which laws to enforce is like prisoners meeting to decide next month’s menu. In either of those situations, you do as you are told, not what you want to do. If you want to make the laws, change your profession.”

Two people were seriously injured in a one-vehicle rollover about 5:15 p.m. Sunday at westbound Interstate 10 at Elliot Road, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety official.

A fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a commercial truck occurred on Friday around 6:36 p.m. on Interstate 10 near Ray Road.
