  • article Letter: Middle class vanishes while top 10 percent keep cashing in

    Tuesday, May 7, 2013 7:46 am

I am constantly amazed by how difficult it is for so many Americans to add two-plus-two and come up with four, and who continue to vote against their own economic self-interest. The facts are out there if they would only take a moment to consider the facts!

  • article Letter: Spending should shape country’s current needs

    Friday, April 19, 2013 7:39 pm

I was surprised to learn from the Friends Committee on National Legislation that 37 cents of every dollar we pay in federal income taxes go to pay for current and past wars. • article Rooney: 'Disconnect' an earnest cautionary tale

    Friday, April 19, 2013 6:00 am

It's a given at multiplexes these days that despite switch-off-your-cell-phone announcements and the occasional grumbling protest, whatever's onscreen will have to compete with tiny pockets of light from audience members unable to stay off their handhelds. Watching those glow patches come and go during "Disconnect" reinforces the film's position on how desensitized we've become to these technological intrusions. Not that Henry-Alex Rubin's schematic multi-strand drama is at all shy about articulating its themes.
