Dear Editor: Linda Turley-Hansen obviously couldn't resist ruining a good article ("Bigotry toward senior women primeval," Jan. 4, AFN) with her opening salvo against Hillary's alleged Marxism. Here's my challenge: read my letter on Limbaugh's economic distortions (same page as your column) and focus on Clinton's stock-market record. How could the stock market thrive for eight years under Marxist socialism? (I assume that you agree: Hillary's economic policy would parallel Bill's, with competent treasury secretaries like Robert Rubin instead of hacks like Snow and Paulson). Linda, have you ever read anything about Marxism? If so, I can imagine your eyes wandering over the page. But I can't imagine your brain engaged with the text. Once in while, it's enjoyable to take off ideological blinders and actually think. C.W. Griffin

I feel the GOP’s post-election pain. I became chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party after the 1994 Republican sweep, when Newt Gingrich seemed as fresh, exciting and intellectual as, say, Barack Obama.

So much for all the talk by U.S. House Republicans about getting back to GOP ideology of limited spending.

Which of the following dictionary descriptions most accurately describes the ideology of the current administration?

WASHINGTON - What we learned from the off-year elections: The president's influence is limited, independents rule, incumbents beware, issues trump ideology and, once more, "It's the economy, stupid."

It is becoming increasingly apparent that our system of government, as prescribed by our Constitution, is no longer working. A handful of radical representatives of one party are able to stymie the progress of over 340 million citizens in order to further their warped ideology. I do not believe this extremism is what the writers of our Constitution envisioned in the 1780s. Something must be done.

Let’s be clear about one thing: Roberta “Bobbi” Smith is innocent. Charges alleging that she unlawfully removed political signs in Gilbert last May have been dropped, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit on Friday sent a Gilbert church's lawsuit over town sign regulations back to U.S. District Court after affirming part of the lower panel's ruling.

When you’re put into city office by only a 14 percent voter turnout, it’s hard to point to direct evidence of what most of the community wants of you. In Scottsdale, the City Council tends to hear from two types of residents: Perennial complainers, which are few, and occasional complainers, which are many.
