    Wednesday, September 12, 2012 5:15 pm

We can admit it: A lot of us have dreamt, or at least thought about, what it would be like to sit on the sidelines of the Olympic Games. Now we can sit on the sidelines to watch the gymnasts who captured the world’s attention at the London Games, when the 2012 Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions comes Sept. 14 to Jobing.com Arena in Glendale.

NEW YORK (AP) — The London Olympics may well be remembered as the event that drove home the power of social media — partly to the chagrin but mostly to the benefit of NBC, which controlled images of the games in the United States.

  • article Lester: Digging at the roots while going for gold -- Gabby Douglas’ hair

    Saturday, August 11, 2012 3:52 pm

Here we go again, talking out loud about the hair issue. I naively thought that we had done that issue to death, but the roots of the problem seem not to have been adequately addressed. Perhaps a little context will help grasp what’s going on now.

  • Photos: Raisman wins floor gold as US men, women compete for gymnastics titles

Aly Raisman finished the Olympics in style. The U.S. captain matched Gabby Douglas in gold medals, winning the title on floor exercise Tuesday. Add in the bronze on balance beam from earlier in the day, and she becomes the most decorated of the Fierce Five. "It definitely went better than I thought it would," Raisman said. Good thing Raisman did so well because the rest of the Americans came up empty-handed. Douglas had another rough day, finishing seventh on balance beam after a fall. World champion Jordyn Wieber, voted most likely to leave London with the biggest haul, was seventh on floor and finishes without any individual medals. Danell Leyva and Jonathan Horton of the U.S. men’s team were fifth and sixth, respectively, on high bar, leaving the U.S. men with only Leyva's all-around bronze (--The Associated Press)

Make it a pair of golds for Gabby Douglas, who added the all-around title to the one she won with the U.S. team two nights ago. Douglas became the third straight American to win gymnastics' biggest prize, taking the lead on the very first event Thursday night and never really letting anyone else get close. She finished with a score of 62.232, less than three-tenths ahead of Viktoria Komova of Russia. [--The Associated Press]
