    All schools with students in kindergarten through eighth grade within a 3-mile radius of a Fresh & Easy store are eligible to participate in Shop for Schools. Participating schools receive a $1 cash donation for every $20 receipt collected from any Fresh & Easy store from Sept. 15 through Dec. 31. The school that raises the most money in the state through receipt collection will also win a $5,000 bonus.

    Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market kicked off its fifth-annual Shop for Schools fundraising program last week. Through the program, Fresh & Easy has given more than $4 million to neighborhood schools to use for whatever they needed most, according to a news release.

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc. is recalling its f&e brand bagged Washed Spinach because it could be contaminated with listeria.

    While no illnesses have been reported, the El Segundo, Calif. company said Friday that it was taking precautions after one bag of spinach tested positive for listeria.

    The recalled products have the "enjoy by" date of October 16 and were sold in Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.

    Listeria is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people or others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
