“The next time the IRS asks for more than 1 or 2 years of records tell them, ‘Sorry, I lost them in a hard drive crash’ and walk away. They seem to think it is good enough for them.”
The language of politics can be fascinating, and in that world of carefully chosen words and deceptive speech, former United States Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, was/is one of the best there is at what he does. Now if you think that ‘fascinating’ and ‘politics’ are two words that should never appear together in the same sentence, then you are probably going to bored to tears with the new documentary film, The Unknown Known.
Common sense would dictate that Chickenhawks like Dick Cheney and Ted Nugent should be the last people to be consulted about troop levels and defense matters, but that’s exactly what is happening. Chickenhawks everywhere hope that an aggressive chest-thumping posture on fighting for your country will cause the American public to have amnesia about how these cowards showed the white feather when it came time for them to stand up and fight for their country during the Vietnam War. When it comes time for someone to fight for their country, Nugent and Cheney think there is no limit, as long as it does not include them. It insults our veterans to let Cheney and Nugent pose as patriots.
“We are scolded by government messages to rely on mass transit. But your car never goes on strike for a greedier deal. Drive away, dude. Also, why can’t upper management get off their duffs and drive the buses during strikes?”
“Only in liberal America could a Latino kill an African American in self defense, be acquitted of murder by an all women jury, and still have the blame put on the white man!”
“If Republican congressmen want to hold on to their seats the first thing they should do is increase border security around their gerrymandered districts.”
WASHINGTON — In the months and early years after 9/11, FBI agents began showing up at Microsoft Corp. more frequently than before, armed with court orders demanding information on customers.
“With a labor participation rate of 63.3 percent, have the Democrats turned America into a third world country or a leftist utopia? Pardon the redundancy.”
No public figure has clearly articulated the true lesson from the 10th anniversary of the disastrous Iraq War. That lesson is a matter of logic. In weighing the war’s costs and benefits, we reversed the burden of proof. The war’s proponents should have been presumed guilty until proven innocent. Instead, the Bush Administration reversed that proper criterion, generally supported by the national press in placing the burden on skeptics.
Ten years on, what do we have as a result of our involvement in Iraq?
March 19 this past week marked the 10th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq originally named Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL) later changed to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Just to note some of the “Shock and Awe” for our $3 trillion to $5 trillion dollar investment: 4,489 dead U.S. soldiers, 32,220 U.S. wounded. This does not include dead or wounded U.S. civilians or private contractors nor the 300,000 plus brain injury and PTSD cases.
“Is there a criminal penalty for shooting down a drone over U.S. soil?”
“President Obama can set an example by disarming his secret service entourage and declare his upcoming taxpayer-funded Hawaiian holiday a gun-free vacation.”
FILE- This Nov. 11, 2000 file photo shows then Republican presidential candidate Texas Gov. George W. Bush and running mate Dick Cheney walk down a dirt road to meet with reporters, followed by Bush's dog Spot, near Crawford, Texas. For the new book “Pets at the White House,” Dallas author Jennifer Boswell Pickens interviewed everyone from first family members to White House staffers to give readers a glimpse at what life is like at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for pets and what those pets have meant to their famous owners. NEW YORK — Any stock trader will tell you that if there's one thing investors hate, it's uncertainty.
WASHINGTON — Sarah Palin and George W. Bush won't be in Tampa, Fla. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Al Gore won't make the trip to Charlotte, N.C. And scores of other Republican and Democratic stars are taking a pass as their parties gather for this year's national conventions.
Mitt Romney’s tough talk on foreign policy shows why we should always check the military service records of self-proclaimed superpatriots. Like Dick Cheney, John Bolton, Paul Wolfowitz, Rush Limbaugh and other Republican chicken hawks, Romney was a Vietnam draft dodger, whose five sons have similarly avoided military service.
The morons on the Right think the answer to violence in America is to arm more people with guns. The shooting in Aurora, Colorado at the Batman movie premiere is a glaring example of why severe gun control is needed. Everyone beLIEves they can carry a gun. What if someone else had a gun and started shooting in the chaos of that smoke-filled theater. Do we need 40 dead and 100-plus wounded? Twelve or more dead and 50 wounded is too many. The punk had four weapons, one being an assault rifle, tear gas, and a bullet-proof vest. The 2nd Amendment does not apply to every American citizen, unless you are in a militia. Those who love their guns and that 2nd Amendment overlook the militia part. Our founding fathers are most likely turning over in their graves with the direction the Republicans are taking this nation. Our nation is destroying itself through laws that are supposed to protect us. We as a nation — well our politicians on the Right care more about war and the world, than our own people at home. We need to fix our problems before we solve the world’s. Our first fix should be gun control. I’m sure the hate mail will come rolling in if this gets published. So be it. It’s still America, and free speech reigns supreme. Read the 2nd Amendment. Rather, I’ll include it for you all to read. “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
“I’m alarmed at the number of people killed on city streets. Is it possible some think airbags are a substitute for seatbelts? Most police say they never find a dead person wearing a seatbelt. Parents — if you’re smart you’ll set an example by always buckling up and insisting your children do the same.”
“Dick Cheney back to his old self trying to instill fear with his unmitigated disaster speech. However he does show some backbone doing it from a disclosed location. His new heart must have come from a Democrat.”
“Since Arizona legislators can vote on laws to watch teachers’ language, what they teach and close down schools, let’s make laws for politicians that they must be 100 percent honest, moral and not waste time making stupid laws.”
When will they stop asking Republicans like me about our party’s choice for vice president?
I wonder if American voters are really paying attention to what the GOP candidates are proposing?
The covert assassination of American-born and high-ranking member of al-Qaida, Sheikh Anwar Al-Awalaki, marks another victory in America’s war on terrorism. In addition to taking out Osama bin Laden, President Barack Obama has demonstrated a determined commitment to the security of our nation. By “terrorizing the terrorists,” he has turned the war on terrorism abruptly around. Now it’s the terrorists who are on the run and fearing for their worthless lives.
