A late “freedom” game addition for both teams to help fill out the schedule, Shadow Ridge is a new school in the far west side city of Surprise (65 miles one-way to/from Williams Field according to Google) but returned most of its lineup from last year’s 7-4 squad, and it’s worked well. The Stallions are 7-1, including four wins by a touchdown or less and victories coming against Glendale Cactus, Glendale Deer Valley and Peoria Sunrise Mountain. Shadow Ridge is led by a solid defense and RB Chris Salsberry (1,497 yards, 21 touchdowns and 7.7 yards per carry). Salsberry has even thrown two touchdown passes in his only two passing attempts this season. But Williams Field is on a roll after finishing strong against Saguaro in a loss, then hammering Queen Creek last week. The Stallions have an elite running back, but don’t have much of a passing game and one-dimensional usually doesn’t work against Williams Field’s defense (ask Queen Creek). The Stallions also haven’t seen an offense quite as good as the Black Hawks.
Prediction: Williams Field 38, Shadow Ridge 21

Liberty jumps into the top-5 with a win over Deer Valley, and even though Campo Verde struggled this week against Westwood, the win and its body of work has suddenly moved the Coyotes up to No. 4 in Division II. There is a wide gap between No. 4 and all the rest, as Salpointe is the clear favorite while Centennial and Chaparral look like the main contenders.
