Boys Soccer State Tournament Semifinals
The question posed was simple: Now that the boys and girls high school soccer state tournament brackets have been decided after two months of power point matches, did the new playoff format get it right? Are the 16 best schools (based on power point formulas derived from wins and strength of schedule) in each of the three tournaments for boys and girls, respectively?
Apparently the last few years of boys soccer wasn't loaded enough at the top levels, because the road this year's teams will travel is going to be tougher.
Mesa High's boys soccer team was trying to go where no previous squad in school history had ventured before. Competing in the sport for nearly three decades, the school had never reached the semifinals of the state tournament.
Eric Mormon’s header with four minutes remaining in overtime helped No. 6 Campo Verde avoid a first-round upset and beat No. 11 Notre Dame, 3-2, on Wednesday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Division II Boys State Soccer Tournament.
