Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday in Superior, 32 children ages 8 and older will line up at 100 Mary Drive in hopes of securing a slot to the granddaddy of all soapbox derby events — the All-American Soap Box Derby International Championship that will take place July 31 in Akron, Ohio. (There’s another qualifying race in Tucson.)

Sferra redeemed himself after a damaging base-running mistake in the ninth inning by driving in the game-winning run in the 11th as ASU defeated Nebraska, 8-7, in a memorable College World Series game Tuesday afternoon at Rosenblatt Stadium.
