“If you’re a conservative and stop to rescue victims in a car accident like Mitt Romney’s son did, you’re mocked and ridiculed by those on the left. If you’re a liberal and kill someone with your car, then run away, you’re elected senator of Massachusetts like Ted Kennedy!”
First, the media wanted the nation to heal, and now, they want the Sandy Hook school’s 911 tapes to be released to the public. In essence, it’s nothing but cheap unwarranted media sensationalism which will feed the ‘kooks’ to produce more of the same. But, as we all know, tragedy sells.
Is America’s center rising again? It certainly seems that way.
An anti-bullying allegory writ on the largest possible scale, "Ender's Game" frames an interstellar battle between mankind and pushy ant-like aliens, called Formics, in which Earth's fate hinges on a tiny group of military cadets, most of whom haven't even hit puberty yet. At face value, the film presents an electrifying star-wars scenario — that rare case where an epic space battle transpires entirely within the span of two hours — while at the same time managing to deliver a higher pedagogical message about tolerance, empathy and coping under pressure. Against considerable odds, this risky-sounding Orson Scott Card adaptation actually works, as director Gavin Hood pulls off the sort of teen-targeted franchise starter Summit was hoping for.
PHOENIX — A federal appeals court on Tuesday ruled Arizona cannot enforce yet another provision of its controversial 2010 law aimed at illegal immigration.
“So, they had a nasty shooting in D.C. on Monday. I wonder how that can happen. I thought the liberals banned owning guns there. Another ‘gun free’ zone! Yeah the law abiding are disarmed while the criminals are free to mow them down. The liberal mind set baffles me!”
Santa Ana, Calif. - A woman charged with killing her 13-year-old autistic son and 9-year-old daughter in the midst of a custody dispute asked a judge for the death penalty Tuesday during her first court appearance since her arrest.
“So they decided to bomb Syria. Uh, I think too much time has passed since the initial incident for this to have its intended effect. It’s kind of like training a dog. When the dog misbehaves, you have to correct the behavior immediately (and I don’t mean by violence), or the dog doesn’t know what the punishment is for.”
Sci-fi movies, we all know, create unlikely heroes, and this summer's no exception.
When Hollywood film crews headed to Arizona to make movies, the East Valley became a favorite choice, and as a proud Arizonan, I seem to gravitate to films that I otherwise might not choose to see simply because I hope to see somewhere I’ve been.
He can play seriously silly or dangerously dramatic with an ease many actors envy. Sam Rockwell has appeared in a number of big-screen hits including "Seven Psychopaths," "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "The Green Mile." He is the son of working actors who divorced when he was young. At 44, he remains unmarried and is content with that status. He stars in "The Way, Way Back" as Owen, the manager of a water park. His character helps a shy boy, in town for the summer with his mother, played by Toni Collette, find his confidence.
When did our so-called “Minorities” take over America? I don’t remember Italian-American, German-American, Norwegian-American, Swedish-American, Chinese- American, Indian-American, Pakistani-American, Japanese- American, Russian-American, Armenian-American first generation (off the boat, now off the plane) children being given years and years of “English as a Second Language” learning assistance. Many of these children had to learn a whole new alphabet. On top of that, to learn to read from right to left and from horizontally instead of vertically. Why did these “legal” immigrant children learn English in usually a year, if not less, and it takes our Spanish-speaking Children (same alphabet, same reading the words from right to left) years and years? And still, many read and speak English at a fifth-grade level when they graduate from the 12th grade?

There's a limit, it turns out, to how much Johnny Depp and a bucket of makeup can accomplish.
“All of you out there barking in defense of Joe Arpaio must have no problem with corrupt elected officials. Or have you all forgotten the hundred million taxpayer dollars that went missing under Sheriff Joe’s watch? A vote for Sheriff Joe is a vote for corrupt government!”
“Republicans are calling undocumented, hungry underpaid exploited workers a bunch of takers. Somehow, I don’t think their hearts are into reform. I think they should reject it. Any excuse will do, like the wall isn’t tall enough.”
“If you moved to Gilbert because of the good schools, then you may become disappointed. New GPS board members want to turn Gilbert into a charter school district. Charter schools are a privatization of public schools that funnel your tax dollars to a small group of insiders. Charter schools do not outperform public schools. Do research, pay attention, and get involved.”
For more than 30 years, two words — “East Valley” — did more than anything else to put a vibrant, growing, destination-in-an-of-itself region on the map. Without them, this area may well have remained the land of Nod: A sleepy place whose residents do little other than shift positions every few hours.
There’s no denying that Richard Donner set the bar for the Superman franchise with his 1978 film. The icy landscapes of Planet Krypton, John Williams’ vigorous musical score, Christopher Reeve’s iconic performance -- every aspect of Donner’s movie remains definitive.
On April 2, 2013, the Associated Press announced amendments to its style book, effectively banning the use of the word “illegal” to describe a person as in “an illegal immigrant.” This announcement was followed by similar pronouncements from other news sources, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Denver Post.
“Through the National Security Agency, the Obama Administration is secretly monitoring Verizon phone calls made in the United States by millions of Americans. An Obama administration official has acknowledged such collection of people’s telephone records is a critical tool to fight terrorism, and is in fact going on.”
WASHINGTON — The Republican Party, having lost the popular vote in five of the last six presidential elections, confronts a dilemma that's easier to describe than to solve: How can it broaden its appeal to up-for-grabs voters without alienating its conservative base?
A federal judge on Friday found the department run by the self-professed "toughest sheriff in America'' was guilty of racial profiling and ordered the agency's practices permanently halted.
"Daring" isn't a word you would use very much to describe 2011's "The Hangover Part II," the disappointingly lazy, beat-for-beat rehash of the wild and wildly successful original "Hangover" from 2009.
