Arizona State announced Tuesday that Katelyn Boyd of Scottsdale Horizon, Talor Haro of Gilbert Highland and Annie Lockwood of Paradise Valley High were three of seven softball players to sign national letters of intent to play for the Sun Devils.

Other commitments came from Nikole Afusi of Midway City, Calif., Lexi Anderson of Upland, Calif., Hillary Bach of Tulsa, Okla., and Christina Zambrana of Garden Grove, Calif.

WRESTLING

• Arizona State wrestling coach Thom Ortiz announced that Eric Starks of Battleground, Wash., signed a national letter of intent to attend ASU.

Starks is a three-time state placer and finished as the state’s runner-up as a junior at 152 pounds.

BASEBALL

• Mesa Solar Sox outfielder and Chicago Cubs prospect Sam Fuld has been named the 2007 Arizona Fall League Joe Black Most Valuable Player Award recipient.

Fuld led the league in hits (43), on-base percentage (.492) and slugging percentage (.626).

HOCKEY

• Phoenix goalie Dave McKee made a club record 57 saves, but Utah’s Trevor Smith scored a pair of goals to propel the Grizzlies to a 3-1 victory over the RoadRunners in ECHL action Tuesday at West Valley City, Utah.

Following a scoreless first period in which the RoadRunners were outshot 22-5, Phoenix (7-10-3) opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the second when Jeff Kyrzakos collected Mitch Carefoot’s long rebound in the slot and snapped it past Utah goalie Nathan Lawson. The Grizzlies improved to 11-9-2.
