University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale will host a soccer doubleheader July 12 during the first round of the 2009 Gold Cup.
The tournament is the championship of soccer's North American, Central American and Caribbean region (CONCACAF) and will feature 12 nations, including the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The teams that will play in Glendale have yet to be determined. Twelve other cities will also host first-round games.
The U.S. team may send a young roster for the tournament because many of the veterans will likely be used for the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa in June.
The U.S. has won the Gold Cup four times, including the past two in 2005 and 2007. It beat Mexico in the final of the 2007 tournament in Chicago.
