The NHL's European scouting service called Ekman-Larsson a "smooth skater" who has the "frame, speed and skill to dominate."

The 6-foot-2, 176-pound native of Karlskrona, Sweden represented his country at the 2009 Under-18 World Championship, scoring two goals with six assists in six games

"We are thrilled to select Oliver with the sixth overall pick," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said. "He is a multi-talented defenseman with tremendous potential and we believe he'll play a big role in the future of the Coyotes."
