Even though the weather was brisk, with a high of only 60 degrees, a Thursday-record crowd of 83,657 showed up for the opening round of the FBR Open.
FBR officials say crowd could eclipse record
The sea of humanity at the TPC Scottsdale was slightly larger than the previous Thursday standard of 78,864 fans set in 2005.
For the week, the FBR has drawn 170,858 fans despite only 4,947 showing up on Monday due to inclement weather. There still is a long way to go if the tournament is to break the cumulative all-time record of 536,767 fans set in 2006.
