Nine pitchers are among 17 non-roster players invited to spring training by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
They include Scottsdale-born right-hander T.J. Beam, who had stints with the New York Yankees in 2006 and Pittsburgh Pirates in 2009.
Also invited is right-hander Rodrigo Lopez, 68-66 in his career with Baltimore, Colorado and Philadelphia. They are among four who signed minor league contracts with Arizona in the offseason with the understanding they would be non-roster invitees to the major league camp. The others are catcher Carlos Corporan and outfielder Drew Macias.
Other invitees are right-handed pitchers Josh Ellis, Barry Enright, Kyler Newby, Wes Roemer, Bryan Shaw and Matt Torra, and left-handed pitcher Tommy Layne; catchers Sean Coughlin and Konrad Schmidt; first baseman Jeff Bailey; shortstop Mark Hallberg; and outfielders Collin Cowgill and Evan Frey.
Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers report to the team's spring training facility in Tucson on Feb. 19, with all players to report on Feb. 23.
