THE SKINNY

Some view this as a trap game for the Cardinals, who are coming off an emotional victory over the New York Giants. Plus, Carolina will be looking to avenge its playoff loss to Arizona last season.

The Panthers, however, just might not have the firepower to hang with Arizona. Quarterback Jake Delhomme has thrown a league-high 13 interceptions, and coach John Fox considered making a switch this week before sticking with Delhomme.

Arizona certainly has to avoid a letdown. But if it plays anywhere close to its capability, it should have no trouble dispatching Carolina.

THREE THINGS TO WATCH

1. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie vs. Steve Smith: DRC has an interception in each of the last three games, but he’ll have his hands full with Smith, who still is one of the league’s most dangerous receivers even if Delhomme can’t get him the ball often enough. Carolina will try to soften Arizona’s defense up with the run, then hit Smith with the deep ball.

2. Cardinals’ run defense vs. Carolina’s running game: The only chance the Panthers have is to be able to control the clock with their rushing attack, thus keeping Kurt Warner and Co. off the field. Expect a heavy dose of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, particularly if the game is close.

3. Beanie Wells: The Cardinals rookie running back had his best game against the Giants, and he’ll likely see even more action this week. Tim Hightower will start, but don’t be surprised if Wells gets at least 15 carries. He just has to make sure he can hold onto the ball.
